Just love her refusal of a civilian award. Quite right she was too.

pretty much says it all. Shame it has to be said when she can't hear it.

Civilian award, my spleen.

A great lady, her exploits alone would have saved countless numbers of Allied lives in the initial invasion of France.

Her medal refusal shows her high morale standards. I'm surprised she was offered the civil version of the MBE as a lot of these agents were commissioned into the military but when caught were shot as spies.

Not that I want to be in the position of apologist for the UK establishment, but she was awarded the military MBE, and the civil CBE, which is one award further up. Not sure where the NY Times is getting its facts. Maybe the MBE was "renegotiated".

You are correct Rich, I've just checked the Daily Telegraph. She was awarded the civil version of the MBE which she refused and then was offered the military version. Later she was awarded a higher decoration by the Queen, the CBE.

Another extraordinary person leaves her mark on the world. I would have loved to have a conversation with her.
