Sad news

Some sad news.
My next door neighbour and good friend Norman "Hurricane" Smith died on Monday. He was an engineer, producer and singer/song writer. He worked at Abbey Road Studios in London for EMI in the 60's and 70's and was the engineer on all The Beatles recordings up until 1965 and then was the producer on the first three Pink Floyd albums - "The Piper at the Gates of Dawn", "A Saucerful of Secrets" and "Ummagumma" as well as being involved in hundreds of other songs. He was a very talented man and will be greatly missed.
To me he was just a neighbour and a good friend that came around for tea and to chat. On a sunny days you could always hear him whistling in the garden.

R.I.P Norman, You will be in my heart forever, you don't know it but you have taught me alot.

No matter the age, it's always difficult to lose a good friend. He sounded like a great guy and great neighbor.

Careful with That Axe, Eugene

A sad day. He lived a remarkable life and has touched alot of lives through his magic.
"Ummagumma" was one of the best Pink Floyd albums. A true masterpiece.

Andy, I loved how you described this talented man, who has contributed so much, as "just a neighbour and a good friend that came around for tea and to chat..." and that "...you could always hear him whistling in the garden." That was a beautiful contribution to his memory. My condolences to you, as his friend and neighbor, and to his family.

I offer my condolences for your loss. He sounded like a great guy, and what an amazing career and great life he must have had. And it's a blessing that he had a neighbor like you Andy. Peace.

Andy, sorry to hear about the passing of Norman. I am a Beatles and Pink Floyd fan. I passed this information on to Ann Stevens a local DJ on radio station WTUE here in Dayton, OH. Ann does a 3 hour show every Sunday from 9am-12pm called Breakfast With The Beatles. I'm sure she would love to hear from you and hear any scoop Norman might have shared with you on the Beatles and Pink Floyd sessions. You can listen to the show on your computer.

I heard about Hurricane on the radio this morning, they played some of his wonderful work as a tribute.
