HD gets it right

Just saw this on the interwebs. It's the new HD Crossbones. I don't know the specs yet and it is probably the same re-hashed version of every other HD out there, but, it sure is pretty. For a company that is known for mass marketing a style they once denounced this is a good looking machine.

They didn't have it yet when I was at the H-D dealership about a week ago. But it seems H-D is moving in the direction of offering bikes with less chrome, more of a factory rat look, mini ape hangers, bobber styling, etc. They even had a dyna painted matte black with this sort of styling.

I saw one in the showroom last week, as well as the new Nightster. Pretty sweet looking with the springer front end and no passenger seat...alas it's still a Harley.

Well on that particular bike, some things are odd. Like floorboards on a bobber. Ditch the floorboards, go with pegs and a standard toe shifter.

I don't really like the look of H-D soft tails in general but for a soft tail this is one of the better looking bikes. The springer seat is a nice touch.

Their Dyna and Sportster bobbers look better to me. Especially in matte black instead of this glossy black.

Put a wide, flat bar on it, bob the rear fender into something far more minimalist, and you'd have one of the best looking Harleys I've ever seen. Have Honda reengineer it, and I might even see myself buying one.

My first thought was that I would lose the front fender completley, and put high riser drag bars. My biggest compliment is that HD is goinfg for a look that screams "motorcycle". Flat and unobscured by crappy add-ons, which they love.

By the way, I saw it in this months Cycle World and dug the picture off a website somewhere.

Bobbers are starting to become popular again. Probably won't reach any significant level of fame, but I wouldn't be surprised to see more bobbers in the next few years.

The wheels are godawfulugly
