Smile Had a day off - at last!

What with all the work I've had, it occurred to me that I hadn't had a day off in many many months. Always there was something needing done or arranged or whatever.
Well, Saturday night came along and I'd had enough. I took myself up to the Spinners at Cummersdale for a night out at "Wizardmarra's Open Mic Night" to listen to the likes of Bill Lloyd (Banjo Billy) et al. There were too many highlights to list, but among them were such poems from Al Crowley as "All I Wonna Do Is Shag Ya!" and an inverted Chaz and Dave tribute called "Eeza Geeza" and "Old Macdonald Dropped A Tab" from Kay Wye and the Rough Entries. I was laughing so hard my face was hurting.
A lock-in at the pub was followed by a good old "sesh" in the travellers caravans. Didn't get home til 7am - just in time for a tongue lashing from the misses. Maybe I should have mentioned something about it to her beforehand.
Next time off will be devoted to fitting Seth's D9 bracket to the bonnie, I reckon. That and bringing the Twin Mods page back up to date. Mind you, Wiz Night is set to be every first Saturday of the month, so who knows.
Anyway, I've got 7.5 tons of oak about to land in my yard for my next project and I still haven't sorted out somewhere to put it, so it's back to work for me.

Hope you chaps had a good weekend too. Chin chin!

Oh Crikey - it's just started snowing - this is gonna be fun! :

I know you said 'oak', but my mind read 'gopher wood.' Maybe the pair of anteaters can keep the termites at bay. Just keep the lions away from the anteaters.

Sounds like a great night; good for you!

Are green oak structures earthquake rated?

Keef, glad to hear you got a chance to unwind. We saw the need for your night off a few threads back.

Hidesert, that pile of wood wouldn't last a week in New Mexico. But I shouldn't talk; I've found two 6"x6" beams in my house (roughly 90 years old) completely hollowed out by carpenter ants. They're very smart little devils, in that they eat the delicious center while leaving the shell untouched. Unless you smack the wood with a hammer you'd never know there was a problem.

Actually, there are prehistoric sites in New Mexico and the four corners area that have beams in them that are between 500 and 1000 years old.

Well that explains it then. They're stale.

Maybe the Atlas of Wood Eating Creatures in my head needs a flash upgrade. I'm also too lazy to Google anything right now after a 13 hour day. I thought the Southwest had termite problems. Water? Come to think of it, the carpenter ant problems I've had were in areas that were exposed to water for long periods. I guess they need something to wash down a good meal.
