Unhappy Honda MC leaving US

I just learned that Honda motorcycle production will halt in Ohio (USA) in 2009.
That operation will apparently transfer back to Japan. Sign of these strange economic times - bummer.

Have Triumphs sales hurt Honda THAT much?

I think it's a bit premature. As the US is now one of the worst performing first world econonmies. & it can't be long before companies start relocating their facilities back to the US, to take advantage of a compliant & cheaper labour market.
Welcome to the global economy

I nominate Old Scratcher for Chairman of the Fed

Hey Scratchy
I like your thinking.
You sound like one of those "my glass is half full" kind of guys.

From what I understand, Honda is redesigning the wing and taking it back to Japan. They will continue to make quads and generators, so no one is going to lose their jobs.....I think. The tooling at that factory though is out dated and will probably be a write off for Honda. BMW is laying off 8100.

I wouldn't say that Honda is cutting back, just re-organizing their workforce. Going from motorcycle to vehicle production doesn't sound like an exciting concept, but if it helps keep all of the works employed I suppose it's a good trade-off.

There isn't a "silver bullet" associated with relocating resources to other countries these days. I still see it done, when there is a strategic advantage associated with it, but not for the sake of money-savings.

Consolidating to the new plant appears to be a good move, because Honda will be able to churn out complex motorcycles quickly.

Pricing for models at US Dealers will be interesting.

I say we take up a collection to buy the tooling and hand it over to Eric Buell. Can you imagine what we'd see in a few years?

Just please, please, please don't let the Teutuls find out.
