3 week tour of the South Island

Well today is my last day on the forum for 3 weeks, I'm going to an owners club AJS-Matchless annual rally, being held in the South Island of NZ this year. I'm riding my Thunderbird down as I will be touring for 3 weeks afterwards to places I've never seen before.

I'll post a ride report with pics when I return.

Don't give Wombat a hard time whilst I'm gone, especially before he's had his morning coffee ! Although I believe he's off to Sydney at the end of the month too so the dreaded Roving Mods will be looking after you !

--------------
Ride on !

Have a good one Tbirdnz.
Where are the new places you're going to ride?
Have you ridden the Littleton Hills, Sth of Christchurch?
I haven't seen them since the '70's, so I don't know if they've changed much.
But they had some of the best bike roads in the Sth Island, back then.

Looking forward to the pics & your ride report when you return.

Hey Tbirdnz,
Sounds like you'll be in for a great time. Don't forget those pictures as promised. Ride safe and enjoy!

Have a great adventure.
Surely there must be somewhere on the South Island where there's an internet connection so you can pop in with reports...

Thanks all, I've never ridden a bike in the South Island and only been down south as far as Christchurch plus I once did the Alpine Express over to the West Coast and down to the two big glaciers so it will be a whole new experience for me. I going right down to the bottom Invercargill, the Bluff and Stewart Island.

I'm not taking the AJS although it is all but ready, I'll be crossing the Cook Straight on the inter-island ferry. Not long to go now, just one overnight sleep here and I'll be off. I'm going down with Stan and his wife and taking my g/f with me. (fivehundo you know them all !).

The bike is packed and starting to look like one of those work-horse bikes in Thailand where they carry everything inc the kitchen sink.

Here's the map to give you a better idea.

Well, Have fun!

I wish I would have done a little exploring around the south island, while I was there. I heard Christchurch and a lot of the surrounding areas are beautiful!

Give Stan my best and you two try to take it easy!!!
