I don't like it, but would do it if the bike has a proper back seat and I have some confidence in the driver. Probably not on back of a sportbike, looks too precarious.

The last time i recall was in about 1968 when a friend of a friend gave me a ride on the back of his Yamaha twin 100 2 stroke. i don't recall ever having been on the back of a bike since. But that was the first time i ever sat on a bike and it also was responsible for my having owned a number of bikes since. I pummeled my parents with "please let me get a bike" till they gave in and got me a '67 honda CL160 twin 4 speed scrambler. It must have had 200 HP from what i remember !

I can still remember exactly what that yamaha sounded and felt like as he took off with me on the back. 100cc's was never so incredibly powerful !!!

I don't remember the last time, but I know I was a teenager. I knew the rules from the very beginning, but don't remember being taught. I either used the seat strap (which I don't really trust), or the grab rail. If it was my brother I'd hang on to his belt.

To ride pillion today, I would really have to trust the person, and really need the ride. Othewise, it's not my idea of a good time. Wait, does Gwyneth Paltrow ride?

The last time was at a MC rally a few years ago. I needed a ride across the campsite to dinner and the keg. First gear all the way. I rarely have a pillion as my wife doesn't ride anymore. Usually once a year we see old friends and my buddies wife who used to ride pillion in her yut makes me take her for a ride. She rides pillion well but the ATGAT has sort of ruined the sensation of her rather ample padding between my back and her ribs. But it's fun none the less. What's the expression? " Hop on babe and plant'em".

Last time I rode pillion I'd had my legend for about 3 months. We had stopped in a local MC shop to take a look and I came out only to notice a 4inch rusty nail slowly deflating my rear tire. Since they didn't have a tube, neither did any of the other 3 triumph dealers within 100 miles of here, I had to leave it there, (saturday) until the tuesday when the place opened back up and could have a tube delivered. Needless to say I had to get home.

... as teenagers we seemed to usually be 2 up on our bikes either as rider or pillion. That was on bikes between 100cc and 250cc - and we thought they had plenty of power (I rode an old 250cc Ducati recently and couldnt believe how gutless it was - the Sprint has spoiled me).
I havent ridden as a pillion for 30 years and dont intend to - but if I had to it would only be with a couple of trusted friends.

I started as pillion on my brother's old CB450 in the early 70's. I haven't ridden as pillion since but that's what got me hooked on bikes.
