Motorcycle security locks: Whats best

Hi Guys

I simply want a lock that will stop 90% of opportunist thiefs from stealing my bikes when I have them out overnight. I don't want a debate about immobilisers etc etc, and I realise if someone wants my bike and has the right means they will take it no matter what security system is in place.

My requirements are:
A: Possibly a cable lock system that goes round the back wheel and front wheel together or round the swing arm, post or another bike?.
B: Doesn't weigh a ton
C: I'm not to keen on a disk lock system.

Anyone have a recommendations?

I have not used this product yet. It might fit the bill for what you are looking for.
They make bolt locks with cables for helmets , jackets and accessories up to 12' long.

The best security for a bike is good insurance and good documentation on your behalf as to what you've got as far as performance parts, add ons, etc.

You can use any of those devices and still get your bike stolen. If you think about it; if you use a disc brake lock, all a crook needs to do is remove the front wheel and get a couple of people to help pick up the bike and load it.

If they want your bike bad enough, they'll get it, so make sure you're insured...

I use Master Lock Street Cuffs. They're not too heavy, but they're substantial. You can use them to cuff through the wheel, frame-to-frame, but I prefer to use them to cuff the frame to a sign post or metal stair railing or something. Trouble is, they're sometimes too short to reach so I have to jockey my Bonnie into position. Most of the time I don't worry about it getting stolen around town. When staying overnight in an unfamiliar city, I at least use disc locks, which are kind of a hassle.

I'm very fond of the Remington Model 700 Tactical in the 308 version!

I go for the cable-lock that I can wrap around the rear wheel and a post when I'm touring.

The disk locks in my opinion are dangerous, renters in particular would forget they put them on.

You could alway just tie the bike to a sheep.

The locals would be more likely to steal the sheep than the bike.

We've got smart sheep, the sheep would steal the bike !

....but your proposal would certainly confound the Ozzie tourists who normally use sheep for bikes. "Sheep ? bike ? sheep? bike ?"
