1973 250 Yamaha
I was looking around and found a local guy here with a 1973 250 DT Yamaha (vintage endro) for sale. He said it needs some TLC but all there and should have no engine issues. Price is very cheap, 300 beans is all. I really want an old single trumpet endro but not sure if this is one of those "dont pass on" deals. What do you guys think? I haven seen it in person yet though.

I'm not even in the market for another bike bike, but, 300 bones would be hard to pass up for an old one lunger.

The 1973 DT250 was also know as the DT3.
It had been around for a few years by '73 and most of the bugs were gone by then.
They were a fairly 'hard to beat' bike back in the day.
Not much to go wrong with them being a single cylinder two-stoke.

Why a two-stroke?
If you want an old single trumpet enduro, the get one. Life's too short to compromise.
I started riding Yamaha's dirt bikes back in the 70's as a kid, but I always liked the way four-strokes sounded but they were to heavy for dirt riding. You get tired of picking up the extra 50 pounds when you crashed (and I frequently did that). Anyways, why do you want a two stroke enduro. The sound is annoying. :
I know that is my opinion, but I have say it.

I would take a look at it, and if it runs ok, buy it. 3 bills isn't too bad. I had a 1969 DT 250 that had a high compression head, 21 inch front wheel and expansion chamber. It was a fun bike to ride, and it was registered so I rode it to high school, and took off to trail ride during study periods. Good Times!

Well to be honest, never even heard something like it before. I just love the looks and think it might be fun to tool around on and do some old time scrambling. I think the stripped down versions of them are the shizzznit! Something about the simple design and just "ride me" looks get me. Will see, thanks for the responses.

Skool,
The DT sounds cool. That was Japans first attempt to build a real enduro bike (street legal, but definite off-road orientation). They were good bikes in theeir day and enough for all but the real hot shoes. I wanted one when they were new, but of course couldn't afford it. As stated above, the 2 stroke single is pretty simple and reliable with little care. If it feeds your rat, go for it. (Don't worry about what it sounds like)

You may want to check Craigslist Albany NY area. There was a 1971 Triumph 250 listed last fri. I believe it was around $1200. It looked pretty nice too.

Back in the day, I had a DT 175 engine in a stripped down DT125 frame with an expansion chamber and big knobbies front and rear. It was a ball in the dirt!
