Someone asked about the macbook pro...YES & NO
I am sitting on the sofa writing this while the computer is connected to nothing. This is my first wireless exoerience, and it's great. I am sending this from a refurbished MaBook Pro, and with a few exceptions, I love it.
When I received it, it was loaded with the Tiger OS, but there was a disk with the Leopard (10.5) included in the package. Like an idiot, I loaded it. If you get one of these wonderful little machines, stick with Tiger. There is nothing wrong with Leopard, but it is far ahead of some of the available software. For instance, some of the Adobe programs (InDesign and Illustrator) simply will not run. Acrobat will run by itself, but if you enlist its aid in opening an e-mailed pdf, it will crash. The latest version of Photoshop runs great, and Microsoft Office programs operate flawlessly.
I tried a Lynksys router, but was told by the company to take it back because it couldn't accept the necessary update. I went to Circuit City, and a Mac person there suggested Belkin. There was a minor installation problem, but after that was solved, I was off and running. I also saved $10 on the deal. This wireless connection stuff is great.
Again, there is a drawback. Now I can take my laptop to bed with me and brows the Triumphrat site, thereby losing sleep and wondering about the things I have read. For instance, Hidesert, what prompted your new slogan? Have we had a lapse in Mamory?

I'd love to get a MacBook Pro, but I've got so much invested in pre-Intel Mac software that it would be a big hit $$$. Maybe I'll pick up an Air (the new paper-thin one) when they come out for general use and keep my old one for graphics, cad, etc.

Bought my daughter a MacBook Pro 2 years ago, she is an Opera major at grad school, and she has become glued to the thing, even though she is a technophobe. I got a MacBook Black.....and am so happy I can't stand it. The quality is so much higher than anything else I found on the market it isn't funny. I have used many operating systems, Windows 3.1, 95, 98, XP; BSD; Linux; and now OS X.....OS X is the best by far. I love Linux....hate windows......but, find myself using OS X the most. Enjoy. Embrace the tiger. You will soon embrace the leopard, too. If you didn't get AppleCare, I would suggest it. Otherwise, welcome to the Cult........aaaaaaaaaaaaauuuuuuuuuummmmmmmm.

Addictive aren't they... I'm afraid it's true though... once you go Mac, you never go back
I've got myself a nicely equipped MacPro... and now I resent having to deal with the PCs in the house. I've told 'em... you better learn to fix 'em yourselves, 'cos I ain't touching 'em no more. I very occasionally use an old Dell laptop, and I'm really thinking of getting an old 12" G4 MacBook Titanium to replace it. Cheap'n'cheerful... but small and portable.

I've had the original iBook, PowerBook, Dell laptops, desktops using a Linksys router hardwired and wireless for all. I bought into the AirPort technology years ago and still have one of the originals plugged in working. My kids also use the wireless for iPhone wifi and gaming stuff like PSP. Now I'm getting past that with over-air higher speed connections and capabilities with my Blackberry. I agree - newer tech is amazing compared to the thrill I got as a kid with cans and string.

Yes, but if you haven't tried Cans and String 3.1 it may change your thinking on that.

Only if it's a free upgrade that doesn't require more string and bigger cans.
Besides, it's probably some new-fangled nylon cord and ergonomic aluminum arrangement.
Bleh.

Be warned C&S 3.1 isn't backwards compatible.

Be forewarned, the cans have sharp edges and the string is highly flammable. I hear there's a service pack in the works, so it should be ready in the next 2-3 years.
P.S. (posted on a Leopard Macbook!)
