I like the statement that he's an 'everyman.' That seems rather presumptive, not to say counterintuitive. It seems at least equally likely that those selected for sacrifice might have been unusual in some way. It's even possible that this was an execution, not a sacrifice. There's probably evidence to the contrary, but is there enough evidence that the sacrifice conclusion is completely above debate?
