"fivehundo" is obviously an allusion to 500.

My first bike was a Kawasaki KX500...

Since I had obviously bitten off more than I could chew with that thing, my buddies used to tease me before weekends when we'd go riding.

They would ask "Are you gonna bust out your five-hundo?"

...the name stuck.

Here's a pic of me in between a double:

After only six months I guess I'll jump onto this thread. It's not very imaginative; Seumas is my first name--the Scots gaelic version of James. I've used it as a log-on name ever since I started on the internet. I've never run across a forum where it was already in use.

Wow, Mordechai; I need to ride with you, so you can patch me up when I half kill myself taking a rolling photo!

I think I posted in this thread before, but recently learned that confusion has persisted. So mine is High Desert; the climate and scenery of the four corners area, my own idea of heaven on earth. I've been from Hawaii to central Europe, and haven't found anywhere that speaks to me the way the US Southwest does.

denman13

den - Dennis
man - not woman (not that there's anything wrong with that )
13 - Favorite number. It's waaayy better than 14 IMHO.

Other monikers that have adhered with or without my consent:
denmother, d-man, d-Train (most people call me that) Vitaman-D, and of course the ever original Dennis the Menace.

p.s. HD, Although I absolutely love where I live, I have wonderful memories of the SW spending many summers at my grandparents in Las Cruces and picnicking at White Sands. Great times. Also had a great time in Santa Fe and Taos one year during the Los Alamos fire. Bad fire, awesome sunsets.

Someone told me that "graubart" meant graybeard in German. It fits.

The Kurgan is the villain of the best movie (and soundtrack I might add) of all time, Highlander.

Apparently, I can trace my ancestry back to original Russian steppe dwellers -- the original Indo-European scourge

Kurgan, you shouldn't have to explain your moniker. After all, Highlander won the Oscar for Best Movie Ever Made!

Graubart, du hast recht.

White Sands is fascinating and very beautiful. My favorite part of Las Cruces is the farming museum; very interesting. I remember the (then much younger) girls asking one of the museum workers what "those" were, pointing at a bull whose testicles were hanging about a sold foot below it's abdomen. Mrs. HiD and I waited with baited breath, but the good 'ol boy simply said "that's part of the bull", and they accepted that as a reasonable answer.

You were there during the fire? I was in the National Guard at the time, up in town. I remember seeing burned out hulks of cars, with solidified liquid metal streams running down from where the aluminum wheels had been. I never would have believed it if I hadn't seen it. Lots of folks lost their homes in that fire, but it was truly touching watching the whole state come together in support of those people. People donated so much material, I remember going into a fire station that was literally packed with water, underwear, socks, and chapstick. Boy was I glad to get some chapstick.

Back to your reguarly scheduled thread...

I think we're overdue for a ride, actually.

Try northern Israel. It lacks the altitude, but every bit as pretty as northern NM, and something extra!
