Travelin' with Whisperinsmith; Beyond Bennington
I'm extremely excited about this: After Bennington, I am accompanying Whisperinsmith on his long-awaited trip across the United States (he elected me to post the news). We are in the early planning stages, but things are shaking out pretty nicely.
I'm also excited that part of the journey will include a southerly segment with rndtayor and his posse (people and routes to be confirmed). Others?
We have a limited timeline, but plenty of time to enjoy the sights. So far we've selected the Blue Ridge Parkway, and parts of Arkansas for interesting routes. On great stretches of boringness we'll take the Big Slab to make up time, but will nevertheless enjoy the scenery along the way. For those portions of the trip, I've suggested The Biggest Aluminum Foil Ball in the World, and Mel & Charlene's Hubcap Museum and Snack Bar. Maybe also the Food The Looks Like Jesus exhibit.
Suggestions welcome. We're both cross-country newbies (although I will lord my Seattle-to-Bennington experience over John for the entire trip).
John, did I miss anything?

Guy,
You summed things up pretty well! And as you suggested, when we finally mark out the details of the route, it would be nice if some forum members could meet up with us for a stint here and there. Hey hidesert, we might just get to see some of that beautiful southwest!
Guy was diplomatic enough not to mention my anxiety level. I've mentioned to him I have two fears. One, I have a time constraint and I don't want to spoil his trip. But I think we'll manage okay. And two, I have an unhealthy fear of heights. (Debilitating is more like it.) Crossing the Rockies should be quite a challenge! Putting me in a tent now and then will be interesting too!
So, fellow BHO members, please suggest things not to miss. (And a homecooked meal along the route wouldn't be turned down!)
We look forward to your thoughts and encouragement.
PS Sorry Nochicanes, I hit the submit button just after you posted. Thanks for your thoughts. We may be a little south of 66 from what I remember. I'll look into it.

I look forward to the postings!
The world's largest ball of twine is located near Minneapolis.

Guys, if you're near enough to Alabama to swing a little south, try to make it to Barber's Motorsports Museum. It's said to be the largest in the world, and I would suggest setting aside most of a morning or afternoon to see all the exhibits and wonder around the grounds.
If you decide to visit there, let me know. I live only 80 miles from there.

Hey Scott!
There's time to join in the ride. Even if just for a section.
If reason prevails and you can't physically join us, we'll take you along in spirit. But you know that.
And thanks brolane!

If you go through New Mexico, I'll meet you on the east side of the Sangre de Cristo and guide you through the best roads in northern NM. And we might be able to arrange a home cooked meal too, provided you like green chile! And if you need any tires changed, several of my buddies can hook you up there too. On a trip like that, you'll probably need new tires at some point. PM me when you have firmer plans!

hidesert,
Thanks. You might just see us limping in needing tires! As for me and chile, I'm from New England where the term "spice" means salt and pepper. But I imagine you have great beer to wash down that green chile.
