Dad's Army

Anyone remember this British comedy series ? Often repeated on TV it was simple fun at its best.

Now they want to put up a statue of Capt Mainwaring in the town where the fictional series was shot. Set in wartime Britain it was also a series in which to spot old Brit iron often used in the sketches.

"Blithering Idiot!

... aaah, memories. Strangely enough, I thought it was a load of old codswallop at the time (but we all still watched it)... and now I view it with nostalgia.

I must be getting old.

I used to love 'Dads Army'

The thing that I miss most about the TV service here is the lack of good British shows.
Some of my other favourites are 'Last of the Summer Wine' and 'Heartbeat'

One saving grace is that my mum often sends me DVDs of the shows.

Is it me, or, ( like "Steptoe and Son" ) does it get funnier as I get older ? Such a rich vein of great characters; Fraser the eternal "doomed" pessimist, Walker the spiv, suave and gentlemanly Sgt Wilson, naive young Pike, Private Godfrey with his sister Dolly and first aid satchel, Warden Hodges and Corporal Jones creating even more panic every time he uttered his famous catch-phrase. But Mainwaring was the real star, Arthur Lowe was brilliant; the more serious he took himself the funnier he became !! I only had to look at the Mainwaring photo posted by Keef to start laughing...

Thanks for reminding me Tbirdnz. Might be going on the old Christmas list

"They don't like it up 'em, Captain Mainwaring".

We still see episodes on BBC Prime.

What about the Warden, Hodges? He was great fun too, always referring to Capt. M as 'Napoleon'.

Didn't the writers, Perry & Croft, go on to do 'Yes Minister' & 'Yes Prime Minister'?

Dave.
