Be careful when you go into PetSmart!

This is Merry, the new companion of Pippin and Frodo.

Here she is with Frodo, whom some of you may remember as the Kaiser of Cuteness:

She's about a year old. She was found abandoned, undernourished, with mange. She's got a clean bill of health now, and we knew the minute we walked into the store and saw her with an 'adopt me' vest that we had just become a 3-dog family.

She's about a year old. Our best guess is that she's a noodle; part Newfoundland, part poodle. The Newf portion is her head shape; these pictures don't show it, but she has a pretty wide, heavy snout, like a Newfoundland or Rottweiler. If the poodle (which we're basing on the coat texture and webbed paws) were small, the sizes may even make sense. Or something. Whatever.

She's really getting along really well with Frodo. Our oldest dog, Pippin (~4 y.o. Westie) is even more disgusted with us than he was over Frodo. It's going to be interesting to see who turns out top (4-legged) dog.

So, let's hear it for adopting strays!

Fine looking pup, for sure.

Was that the PetsMart here in SF? On Zafarano? Man, they just lie in wait for you there, ready to ambush any unsuspecting customer "please, the Humane Society can only keep us for so long!" "Look, and our food and toys are on that isle right over there!"

Yep, we've got three rescue dogs and two rescue kitties now...

Exactly; I think they drip distilled water in their eyes, so they'll glisten soulfully as you walk in. And take lessons from Puss in Boots.

Yeah, that's got to be it. It couldn't be anything as simple as us having a soft spot for cute dogs...

Cute dog. Fast color, too! I'm out of dogs at the moment, so it looks like I'll have to go shopping pretty soon.

Oh, and I have to beat TBA to the punch - Nice flat cap!

Congrats! Looks like a cross between a Border Collie and Golden Ret.

Here's what showed up at our place over the weekend.

The mother showed up, or just the pups? I count 8? It's amazing they all get fed. Very cute.

HA! Guess I should have been more specific. The mother is an import (DDR). Sire is an import from Slovakia. The pups showed up Sunday (labor took 12 hrs total) - 10 of them. They were due starting Thanksgiving day - so 63 days into it aint bad. This pic - there was 9, one must be hiding. She laid on one of the males last night and flattened it.

Our 5 yr old little girl is beside herself with excitement and asked if she could take one to kindergarden today.

congrats!

Adopting rules. I am absolutely convinced that shelter animals know that you've saved them from an otherwise awful life...and they pay you back in spades. Case in point: my cat Setzer (after Brian Setzer 'cause he's a Stray Cat...ba dum dum). Best behaved, happiest cat I've ever known.
