Moto America?

I know from the MotoGP and WSBK threads, there is some interest in the domestic Superbike series. I think there have been enough chatter in those other threads to warrant MotoA having its own home.

What do you guys think?

I'll be at VIR for Sunday only. Any other TRATs going?

Since MotoAmerica's inception, they yanked MidOhio from the series schedule - and with MotoGP getting plucked from Indy, all my local roadracing venues are gone. I watch it all avidly on tv though.

Hopefully, as they grow, they will go back to Mid Ohio. It's such a fun track. I won't be going to VIR. In my current physical state, it would be more of an ordeal than anything enjoyable.

It may not have been their choice. Honda may have decided they were tired of getting their asses kicked by Yamaha and Suzuki, so instead of building a better bike, they just decided to raise the track fees to a level MA couldn't justify. Sort of a deal they had to refuse.

Mid-Ohio is off the schedule because it is unsafe to race on in the rain. I don't like it, because I LOVE Mid-O. I used to go to that round and did a few track days there myself.

That was one of MotoAmerica's rules early on after taking over the series. To get the domestic series more in line with WSBK, and to keep a steady schedule, rain delays were no longer acceptable. That left two choices. Drop the tracks that don't want to make their facilities safe in all conditions, or keep it as it was and force riders to race in unsafe conditions.

If you notice, the "bowl" tracks inside the ovals have also been dropped.

I'd love to see Mid-O back on the schedule, but they also should look into making the track more safe.

Hey! What do you think you're doing? Don't bring your facts in here and ruin my conjecture and attempts at rumor starting. This is the internet, dammit!

I understand being concerned with safety, I don't want any of the riders to get hurt, but now at this stage they are not in a position imo to be dropping races off their schedule cause of what ifs. They've raced there in the rain before in the past.they're only racing at handful of tracks as it is and what they're going to new jersey twice this year. To me Mid-Ohio was important cause of the fan base that was there, and it was 2 more races.

Tell that to the racers who are putting their arses on the line out there. The history of the Mid-O round and the complaints from riders, teams and sponsors regarding racing in the rain is ugly one. You have to figure Wayne Rainey is awfully sympathetic to rider's concerns over safety when it comes to track design and run-off.
One of the big fracturing points between DMG and the riders was when, I believe Rodger Edmonston, described the rider's comfort level to that of a gnat. That comment was because the top riders sat out of rainy races at Mid-Ohio.

My suggestion is to contact Mid-Ohio and urge them to make changes to make the track safe for motorcycle rain racing.

That sounds like a plan, but I doubt it will work. They done gone out at got demselves a NECKCAR race.

Hmmm...track not safe in the rain? Why don't we just book races that only run when it's dry.

Brilliant!

If only it were sunny, cool and dry every weekend. Lol.

Today at VIR was a perfect example how a brief but powerful storm could disrupt the rest of the weekend.
If the SuperStock race couldn't go off, it would have moved everything back in the schedule. It would have messed with qualifying and ultimately the schedule tomorrow.

BTW, I'm looking forward to seeing the show live tomorrow, but looks like the wife and I are driving and not riding.

Wise move. It was coming down hard here at 4 PM, so possibly 4:30 - 5 PM down there and you got across the state line with a bit to spare. Will be comparatively chilly here tomorrow...

MidOhio is definitely sketchy in the rain. Even the morning hours when moisture is still on track is enough to slow everyone down and watch turn entry/exit. Love the technicality of it and, albeit a bit mild, the undulation between T7-T15 makes it that much more fun. My wife had a bad experience on her maiden voyage of the track and got bit by T8 on her first lap with the morning moisture. I've heard the same complaints from the pros.

Still, until they either spend a ton of money on the track surface or MA sacks up and adds it back into the season, I'm going to miss it. Vintage Days just doesn't compare

I've been vocal about MotoAmerica's TV deal and the lack of streaming option without a TV contract. However, that changed for this weekend's race at Barber.
The info can be found here on Roadracing World's website.
I decided to go with Fubo's coverage because it was a cheapest in my area at $10 a month.
I have to say, I am impressed with the production value and broadcast.
