Riding in Traffic Question.......

I don't know how to set up a poll but the question is.....

Do you feel safer riding on the interstate or riding in town?

Don't say "Well, depending on traffic......"

I, personally, feel much safer riding on the interstate. There is a lot more room to manuever as well as the fact that we are all traveling in the same direction.

Do you prefer the right or lft lane? Right lane for me.

Usually the Interstate except through downtown Seattle. I normally stay in the left lane, there is less jockeying going on and it's easier to keep track of the cagers who won't see me. The biggest thing is to stay out of people's blind spots and spend as little time as you can along side trucks, semis or other wise.

Interstate, left lane...defaulting to the right lane. In the fast lane, no on can attack you from the left.
I drive ride up to a cage cluster and sit back. If the rear gets crowded, I try to punch thru and get to the next open space (sans squid style).
Repeat this all the way to destination.
Town traffic is pleasant, but much more dangerous with all it's intersections, stoplights and stop signs.

Secondary roads. Then fast lane on the interstate in the left hand (drivers side) portion of the lane.

I prefer small obscure roads just chugging away at my own pace. Slowish on the straights and not bothering to slow for the bends. On the motorway/ freeway I choose the left (slow) lane or the outmost (fastest) lane. I hate riding in the middle lanes because danger can come from both sides.

This would be a good one for a poll. Great idea. I'll have a go at it.

The slab is probably safer (left lane) than in town.
But as was mentioned secondary roads and also US highways are usually more fun, safer and you can still make time if that's your goal.

driver side freeway

Far fewer intersections, a shoulder to get onto if needed,, no-one exiting/entering.. I don[t like the outside because there are too many people who exit from the center lane without warning. Streets have 3 dangers (4 if you count rear ending) at every intersection. Wish there were more enmypty country lanes for doodling along.

avoid the blind spot

When in the city, I tend to ride a little more aggressively, even moving up briefly to an unsafe following distance just to let the cager next to me know the lane next to him is occupied. Of course, if he is yakking on the cell phone, he probably doesn't notice me. City or slab, one of the most common mistakes I see riders make is occupying a blind spot.

I definitely feel more endangered in the city, safer out on the slab. Safest out in the country with less traffic. I trust me.
