Beginner's Bike

I know that occasionally people come here and ask about first bikes, bikes for shorter people,etc... I just saw this and figured there might be some people interested.

They finally redesigned the Kawasaki 250 into something that looks like a real bike.

Thank God!

I think 1988 called and asked for their bike back.

I like it. Put a pipe on it and I bet it would sound sweet at 17K.

That is pretty cool. Personally, I didn't think there was anything wrong with 1998 but this one is definitely classier.

Too bad it doesn't come with a $3499 discount on a 650R.

Good one!

I just went on a ride down in NoCal last month on Hwy 1 and my friend borrowed an older Ninja 250 from a neighbor and was surprised at how much fun he had. His last bike was a CBR929RR and was reluctant to even go, but would rather ride something than nothing. For a three hour ride it worked fine. His only complaint was how loud/buzzy the bike was even with stock exhaust. He said he couldn't even hear my Sprint RS with the TOR can.

While we are on the subject of first bikes I feel the need to set myself up for ridicule. I think that bikes like the Ninja 250R and the Buell Blast are too short lived to invest your money in. I do think they are great for use at first time rider courses and such, but not to put in your garage (especially with right off the showroom floor prices). My wife is wanting to start riding soon and I just can't justify investing that kind of money in something that she may not enjoy after a year of riding. I would rather invest our money in something like an SV650 or a Ninja 650R. My first bike was a Suzuki GS550L and I thought it was a great first bike. What other opinions do people have about this subject? We are not shopping for a bike until next spring so I have lots of time to digest other peoples' advice.

She wishes the orange Z1000 was a good first bike.

Smile first bike

let her go around and find the bike she is comfortable with. that is her first bike. the number of cc the engine has is not as important as the respect the rider has for the machine they are on. a moped or a st. they both can end your life if you do not have the respect and skill for the ride you are on. a st could do it quicker. the rider must realize the woops factor on a bike is pretty close to zero. i'm assuming she is not a squid. i was one a long time ago. have her take the ABATE riding program first. they might be able to tell you how well she can ride and what her comfort level is . they tell some new riders they can operate the bike on the black top but warn them they are not ready for the street. for all i know she is ready. she has to judge that for her self. good luck! ride safe and i wish you both the best.

Other Motorcycle: I wish!
This topic is already being discussed in another current thread, and there are others if you care to do a search

So I am locking this one down to stop the fragmentation.
