Motorcycles Safer than Horses

Researchers at the University of Calgary did a study and found that motorcycles are safer to ride than horses! The research, published in the American Journal of Surgery is based on a decade of trauma data collected at Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The hospital admission rate associated with horse-riding injuries is 0.40 per 1000 hours compared to a rate of 0.14 per 1000 hours of motorcycle riding, according to the research. The big difference was mostly attributed to helmet wearing which is mandatory across Canada for motorcycling but not mandatory for horse-riding. Who says motorcycles aren't safe? Bonni

I understand Wombat traded in his 10hp Ural for a 1hp Clydesdale which he hoped would be less dangerous, that is, until you posted this thread.

Motorcycles have it all over horses in the exhaust department too.

It's gotta be a pain to re-jet a Clydesdale!

I'll leave this to the one jest, as I just know this is one of those threads that can take off...

I used to have a quarter horse paint and I can tell you that this it 100% correct.

If you screw up on a motorcycle, you have no one to blame but yourself. A horse in an animal with a brain of its own. If it doesn't want you on it's back, you won't be there anymore.

Talk to ooobaby and he'll tell you which beast will fall in to a hole in the grass and throw you to the ground roughly!!

and break your arm to boot!!

the bling costs about as much for each beast though...

but your bike can't add up 3+3 like a horse can!!

Anyone that lives in the countryside will know that this claim is very true, why it took a university to come to this conclusion will be because they managed to get a grant to do it.

In my local village there are two physiotherapists that specialise in 'horse riding injuries'. My daughter-in-law who breeds them on the next farm still has a bad limp from a horse fall from a year ago, which was startled by a pheasant on one of my roadways. One broken arm, one broken leg, one broken and separated ankle.

.....and if you think you are addicted to RatNet or motorbikes, then it will be nothing compared to females that have horses as a hobby, or should I say life. Anyone deliberately go out in thunder and lightening, rain lashing down with gale winds ? No, didn't think so but horsewomen do, day or night 24/7.

Are you suggesting that the Ural was 10x more powerful that that magnificent creature?
