Hi
I have been lucky enough to wrangle a conference in Toronto in July 2016 and I have added a few days to my trip. I want to hire a motorcycle. I would love a Triumph, but anything with two wheels considered. However rental places seem thin on the ground (even Harley don't rent there). Anyone local or with any contacts?
Thanks
Tony
I have used these guys in the past. They have a very limited range of bikes/scooters. My experience with them was not that great but it could have been an exception.
"Lucky" and "riding a motorcycle in Toronto in July" are words that aren't often used in the same sentence, but if you like heat, humidity and heavy traffic on multi-lane freeways moving at insane speeds (then crawling, then stopped dead...) you pretty much nailed it.
Locals I'm sure will give you better and more optimistic intel, but I'm not lying. And when you finally do get out of the city the cops are plentiful and zealous.
By lucky I meant that for the first time in my working life the company is sending me at their expense across the Atlantic! I wanted the bike to escape the city (I live in London, so I know all about escaping the city).
Thanks triumpt120rv GTA Exotics were all I could find, but when I emailed them they said their insurance was due for renewal in April, so cannot confirm any rentals until then.
I guess there are no other options.

I think that might be a red flag. Hold off with GTA. Something doesn't sound right with them. I'm finding out that it wasn't just me that had a problem with them. I'll keep an eye out for an alternative. There's the bike show this weekend. I'll ask around then. Might find someone else, more reputable. Cheers.

Unfortunately , motorcycle insurance is probably the most talked about topic here in Toronto in 2016. Rates have jumped as much as double or more since last year , and they were quite high to begin with. Apparently Toronto (Ontario ) has the highest insurance rates in North America, some even say globally.
So called Reasons are high theft, fraud, and maybe a general dislike of motorcycles, a real shame.
I do hope it works out for you and if so , let us know maybe some of us can hook up.
Just quick googling finds Macke HD less than an hour away? Itching for a ride and having an extra day for a conference in DFW, Tx had me renting a car to drive ~35 miles to get to Roanoke TX to pick up a Road King for 24hrs. I had a blast cruising Dallas and getting out of town for some hwy miles.
Yes, it was a logistics pain in the butt renting a car just to drive to rent a MC, but it all worked out and I got some fun riding in. Since it was a weekend the car only cost me $20 rental which was a lot cheaper than a cab and gave me flexibility on when to pick the bike up an drop it off.
Side note, it was my first time riding a HD, meh, couldn't wait to get back on my Spring
Asked around today at the Motorcycle Show about Bike Rentals n Toronto. Nobody knew of anything except GTA. GTA is actually not in Toronto anymore. They are in Oakville which would be about 40 mins average travelling time from downtown Toronto. Now that wouldn't be too bad except the ride out there isn't great and depending on traffic it could be a lot more. Plus, like I said, I had some difficulty with them so I don't really recommend them. One young woman at a booth suggested Kijiji. Not a bad idea. You may see some private rentals on Kijiji Toronto starting in Spring. She said they will tow the bike to your location. Check in a month or two.
As for the roads leading in and out of the city they aren't that great. We have one of the busiest traffic corridors in North America. There's three types of roads in and around Toronto: Traffic with potholes, slow traffic with potholes and bumper-to-bumper traffic with potholes. . Hey, it's still a great city to visit though...if you're walking.
Didn't even know you could rent a motorcycle here.
