thoughts of being helpful

i just can't stop myself from telling this story. why? who knows what goes on in the mind of a triumph rider?

met bonniegirl for a ride a little while ago. how the two of us ended up together for a ride is a mystery. but long great day. both needed a long ride for different reasons. both needed to hide deep in our own helmets and push through the twisties feeling free from the restrictions of daily life. alone in our own thoughts. our own escapes. a ride like none i had had for a long time, if ever. bliss. just the right wind. just the right pace. just the right kharma.

ended too soon. (hey, life is like that.) sought out a place to chow down. found a nice spot with four harleys in front. not your average biker spot. think upscale woodstock vermont. okay. we walk in. (she's looking freakin' cool, by the way.) they put us at a table right next to the harley boys. (one was a big harley boy!)

we order a couple of local beers. order a couple more after a fashion. laugh. talk. laugh some more. talk. more beer. order something light to eat in order not to spoil the beer and the mood. laugh. get sad for a moment. laugh again. more beer. (she puts me to shame.)

well, at this point the harley boys figure it's time to leave. they've put away a few beers themselves and will be riding. the big one (nearest to me) gets up. he puts his 'colors' on. well, he trys to put his colors on! he gets his right arm in his sleeve and tries to find the left. can't quite figure out where that darn other sleeve is! kinda turns and twists and contorts. we kinda laugh. kinda laugh a lot. kinda laugh a REAL lot! i mean, he's so darn big. he should be able to find that second sleeve! it's not that hard.

he continues having a heck of a time. can't quite reach that **** sleeve! turns again. nope! he's seems to be getting a little pissed. (not at our laughing we hope.)

so, being a kind soul, i asked bonniegirl if she thought i should help him on with his jacket? i might have suggested that i'd tell him it takes a triumph rider to come to the aid of a harley guy in distress. she suggested i keep my mouth shut and stay put. i wouldn't leave it alone. i really felt for the guy.

i kept looking at this poor sod (big, by the way!). i felt compelled to help. i was just about to get up and slip his arm into the elusive sleeve, when his riding buddy stands up and softly helps him on with his jacket. it was a sweet moment. the caring shown between those two bikers was something to behold.

we laughed again. not the proper thing. but we laughed. actually, i think we laughed too much. well, if i think about it, we really did laugh FAR too much. it was a moment.

but let it be known, i was totally prepared to help! you can ask her if she can stop laughing.

It sort of begs the question:

Who dresses these guys of a morning?

Actually, the real question should be, you drank how much and now you're going to get on your bike and (attempt) ride home? Or did you and bonniegirl decide to call it a nite 'sleep it off'?

My soul mate.

We either need to spend a week (individually) isolated in a cabin in the
deep woods of Northern Ontario with a copy of "Walden", a few cans of Spam and a couple of quarts of whisky, OR sign up for an Outward Bound Kumbai Ya Up Up With People Hari Krishna seminar, OR go on a two week E-harmony date a thon, a different gal every night!

When you decide what's best, please please let me know.

How was the harley boy expecting to ride if he couldn't even put on his jacket?

This is good for the gene pool.

Whisperin, it sounds like a great time for you and bonniegirl. Hang on to the memory and do it again as soon as possible. As our brethren in Oz would say, "Good on ya, mate.}

Years ago my older brother met some people in the Lake Ariel section of the Pocono Mountains for a lot of beer and laughter. On his way home on his 69 Triumph Trophy, he took a turn too fast and too wide and found himself on a dirt shoulder close to a 75 foot drop. He almost made it back onto the paved road when he hit a tree. He broke everything on the left side of his body, from ankle to shoulder. His helmet saved his head from being imbedded into the bark. The doctor called my parents and told them that their son was going to die. I drove them north 140 miles as they wept. I saw my brother laying in his blood and pain as he was given last rites. We were told he wouldn't make it to the morning.

He did not die (too ornery), although he can now tell you two days in advance when it's going to snow.

Me? I don't drink when I'm on a bike. Some memories don't go away.

separate rooms. she's a great riding buddy. young enough to be my daughter. behave guys.

and scott, i'd crack open a can of spam anytime with you. wish i were that guy you refer to here.

and to all who see 'hidden' stories here, the last thing i meant was to malign bonniegirl. just meant to post a fun moment that can happen after riding. (i still laugh about it.)

by the way, if you read her posts, she recently took a trip with three guys to deals gap. 2200 miles. as i've stated, the real deal. she genuinely likes to ride.

ps just for the record. i never drink and ride. not even one.
