Wombat Update

Many thanks to all who have sent me PMs and emails following my stack.

It has been 5 weeks now and I am still on crutches and have my leg in an articulated knee brace.
The orthopedic specialist is happy with the way the bone is healing and I am now able to put a small amount of weight on my leg.
No major pain but still a bit of discomfort, mainly from the rupture of the calf muscle and my right wrist

The big issue is the healing of all the torn muscles/tendons around my right knee.
I have physical therapy once a week and get 'homework' to do every day to strengthen the knee and increase the range of motion.

The plan is that I should be walking on one crutch or a cane in about another 5 weeks and all back to some semblance of normality in about 6 weeks after that.

:
I have to say that I am bored sh|tless sitting around the house, but a mate has bought me a model boat kit to build to keep me from going completely stir crazy.:

This should be interesting as I have not built a model kit since I was a kid.
:

For those into model boat building, it is a Midwest brand 47' US Coast Guard Rescue Launch.

Bob, knees can troublesome to fix. I broke my patella. Twice.
Follow the doc's & PT's orders and do plenty of home therapy.
All the best & heal well.

Kevin,
My wife thinks it is amazing, seeing me on her exercise bike, every day.
The most exercise she has ever seen me do.

Keep at it Bob, these things take time, I'm actually missing the Ural, it was a source of constant mirth. Long time since I did any modelling too, tried to get my kids interested when they were young and ended up doing them all myself, only did aircraft though and still got a few of them.

47' launch sounds a lot bigger than a MODEL!!! aren't they usually smaller??

Bob, I sympathize. As I told you, I took a major spill and really tore the right hamstring. The back of my leg turned black for a couple of weeks, but I began walking somewhat normally after about 10 days. The beautiful deep purple is beginning to fade, but there is still some soreness, and that was from tipping over at about 2 mph.

About the only words of wisdom I can offer is that you will eventually get better, but it seems like it takes an eternity.

BTW, is your model a solid hull or do you construct it with strips over a frame?

Nice to hear healing goes well. Sadly it can't be rushed. I also see that a nasty storm is headed your way or at least toward the big island. Hope it vears away. Stay safe.
