What we've always known but officially denied but now proven by a leaked police memo's that issuing tickets is a revenue gathering exercise, better known as highway robbery.

Canterbury police, (Christchurch district of NZ) issued a memo reducing their number of tickets each has to collect from 197 to 80. It appears police have their salaries pegged to the number of tickets they dish out through 'key result areas'. I suppose we should be thankful for this !

In July another leaked memo from the Central north Island District urged staff to target areas with high traffic flows "as it is the last week before the end of the accounting year for us, it is a great opportunity to get our ticket count up".

..... its true Tbird.
Last month we spent 2 weeks driving and riding in Queensland (Australia).In that time I didnt see 1 speed camera or anyone pulled over by the law.

We returned to NZ on a cold and wet Saturday night and within 1/2 hour had passed a car and a bike pulled over on the side of the motorway (in the dark) as we headed home.

Meanwhile there arent enough Police to come and check your home if it is burgled

- 'just call in and fill out a report we are too busy to attend'
