I may have lost a friend
I recently traveled to Milwaukee for a meeting to plan a convention. One of my fellow officers has 26 Harley mechanics working for him. I asked him why they were still looking at the V twin, but he failed to answer. He rode his bike to the motel. I couldn't resist. I mounted it, cranked it, and it didn't sound right. It didn't say potato, potato, potato.
I immediately asked him what he had done to the Hardly. He began ticking off a number of items, including changing the timing, the compression, etc, etc.
That's when I made the fatal mistake. I asked him why he spent so much time trying to make the bike run like a Triumph. He was miffed.
BTW Milwaukee is a great town with some of the best brats in the world. We got to watch the Brewers lay in on the Phillies and move to first place in their division. I went to eat the brats, not to see the game.

Maybe you should be more subtle and just leave some Triumph sales brochures around..
Just not with the price list of spare parts!!

"It didn't say potato, potato, potato."
Maybe if he could get to say "spud, spud, spud."

You have to be really diplomatic around HD guys when making comments about their bikes. Best bet is to complement them on how nice the paint is or how shiny chrome is and let it go at that. They know they bought a techologically obsolete, low performing bike as a fashion accessory, but do not like anyone to remind them of it.

Some (Not all) But some of those H-D guys hold insecurities and envies of a hung type and thats just how they are.
You should have poured some maple syrup under his bike when he wasn't looking.

If you can't say something nice about another guy's bike, well see the second line of my signature.
p.s. Milwaukee is a fun town but I doubt I could live there.

Unfortunately, sometimes you just have to restrict yourself to saying "It has a really aggresive lean angle when it's on the side stand..."

He has probably spent over $30,000 on the thing. I'm with denman13 on this one. If you can't say something nice, don't.

To be fair, the new Buell Rotax should be fantastic also I walked past a Night Rod yesterday which was parked in the paddock at the Phoenix Park races in Dublin, it looked pretty good to me.

I went to the Blues Fest in Duluth yesterday, its kind of a big deal up here, and parked the Bonnie with the other bikes. It's amazing how an essentially stock 8k bike can draw all the attention even in a largre rack of bikes of mixed origins costing a lot more.
