I'm sure that someone will correct me if I err but I think I saw $7999 as a suggested retail price.

Like what Omaz my mate! $8,000 bucks = £4000. On sale in the UK for £5,400 = $10,800
And they are made in England and shipped all the way across the ocean and they cost less?!!

Cycle World, Motorcycle USA, WebBikeWorld, et.al are all reporting the following:
"With an expected MSRP of $7,999 (U.S.) and $9,999 (CDN) the Street Triple will be the most affordable of all Triumph sports bikes."

Pricing will include local taxes etc and determine the local pricing.
On top of MSRP in the US will be state taxes of varying amounts.
I seem to remember that over 50% of the OTD price of a vehicle in Australia was made up of taxes of some sort or another, which could explain the disparity of pricing across the pond.

Cheers Bob. Didn't know about the local tax element. For curious non pond dwellers we have an inclusive fixed tax rate (V.A.T. = Value Added Tax) of 17.5% on all bikes and even safety clothing!

I bought both my Triumphs in Tennessee and paid no sales tax until I got to Alabama. In both cases, the tax on the purchase was about $150-$175. this would not justify the difference in the US-UK pricing.

I paid $526 in taxes for mine. The price (Before taxes) was $5100. I head it's cheaper if you buy from a private party, unless the private party is from another state - or so I hear.
But, around me you have to pay sales tax to the city or state (or both) that you leave in. Makes no sence even if the sale was made 200 miles away.
I don't know - it's been a long time since I sold cars. Maybe someone else could clarify this.

I think any manufacturer will price their product according to competition and what they percieve they can get away with, in the locale. So tax issues do come into the equation.
There was a case highlighted in Europe some years ago where people from the UK were going to the Netherlands (Holland) to buy Land Rovers because the taxes in Holland were so much higher that the base cost of the Land Rover had be that much lower so that the Dutch people could still afford them. The UK buyers brought the vehicles back to the UK and paid the local UK taxes and still saved £10000 on the UK list price. This sort of game forced the prices in the UK to come down for a while but they're begining to creep back up again. It's known here as "Rip-off Britain".

F. Y. I. - My mistake
Dear fellow TRN posters on this thread.
When I previously replied to this thread, I accidentially reported someones post. I was only trying to "reply" and I ended up pressing the "report" button instead of the "qoute" button.
Someone had sent me an e-mail in reference to this. I just want to clarify any issue and come clean that I made a stupid but honest mistake and I reported a thread by accident. I sure hope no one received any grief.
I do apologize, as there was NOTHING wrong with anyone's content.
Once again, I'm sorry about any hassles.
- Pauley
