So how do you commute ?
The Honda Importer here organised a commuter race from Auckland suburbs to the CBD, no prizes who wins but the difference between 2-wheels and public transport is quite significant.
One of the advantages of riding your bike to work here is that bikes are allowed to use bus-lanes in the city (but not on motor-way bus-lanes).
The scooterist in the article is Ross MacKay, editor of KiwiRider.
So how many brave the elements and bike to work ?
Details of the race:

For the past year, I have worked from home, but the previous four and a half years that I have lived here, I rode to work every day.
Even though I work from home, we only have one car (which the boss takes to work), so if I needed to go out, I have to ride.
Weather was not an issue.
If it was raining or looked like it might rain, I just suit up in my rain gear.

TbirdNZ, I've commuted for the past 11 yrs since getting back on bikes. That's literally rain, hail shine. To work, to meetings across town the lot.
I love it. At my last job I'd go to our regional campus about 4-5times a year for meetings and get paid to do a 500km round trip over the mountains.... What a buzz. Unfortunately, most of my meetings are now in the city and not so much fun, but still any riding is better than none!
Last job was a 100km round trip, this one is about 60.

My commute is about 45+ miles round trip but I only go to the office 2 or 3 days a week.
I do it on two wheels as long as the temps are at or above freezing and the roads are reasonably dry. I try to plan my office schedule around the weather.

I commute daily, 105 miles one way, rain or shine. Usually from middle of April to middle of November. After those dates, black ice and snow are usually present.

Unfortunately I have to commute into central London (Soho) so taking the bike from the south coast isn't feasible, mainly as you are taking your life into your hands riding a bike in that area unless you are a courier! I hate the train with a passion but have little choice.
I keep wishing that Sony would move out to Brighton but alas they keep with the central smoke theme!
I'd love to take the bike but love her too much to take the risk.

I try and ride any day I don't have to take my daughter to school. There is no special dispensation for motorcycles in Alabama except they fit through places my truck doesn't and I can pass people in places I wouldn't dream of in my truck.

I commute 8-9 months out of the year. Once we start getting snow and ice on the roads, along with the salt they spread around here, I put it away for a while.

I walk to work, everyday. 2 blocks there and 2 blocks back. I'm exhausted!

I commute in to Brisvegas 3 days a week on the RS.
with the bike - parking is free, travel time is always 30 minutes, I can lane split, and I have a ball at the same time.
It doesn't matter if it is to work or in the twisties, I love riding my Triumph..
