Ducati Be Worried - Very Worried!

Had a quick look around the new Street Triple today - hot from the factory. All I have to say is those pasta makers in Bologna had better sort themselves out or they'll be going bust again. The new Triumph Street Triple is a work of art at a very sensible price. It looks beautiful in black, especially with the belly pan, gel seat, cowl and mini wind shield. Assuming it is as well-built as all the other Triumphs it will sell like hot cakes - as they say on this side of the pond. It's full of features that one wouldn't expect to find on an entry level street bike. The instrumentation wouldn't go amiss in a fighter jet plane. There are also billet machined heel guards. The pre-publicity photographs do not do it any justice. One could almost describe it as having a cute look! It is small and compact and very easy to manoeuvre.

Because of it's reasonable seat height I can see a lot of female riders being attracted to this model in favour of the Monster 600 and other low seat height bikes, of which there are few.

There are no two ways about it, Triumph will bite deep into Ducati sales. The only people who would buy a Monster in favour of a Street Triple are those who are stupid enough to buy into a name rather than engineering excellence - which Ducati are not and have never been renowned.

More Street Triple talk tomorrow. Meantime if there are any Ducati fans on this site don't bother replying. I've owned three of their bikes and I know all about faulty wiring, long delays in parts and stupid, mind numbing service costs. They're just like the Ferrari I saw going threw the car wash tonight. Great going in but the dumb thing wouldn't start when it got wet inside the engine! $200,000 worth of red junk with a pretty label. Oh did I laugh..

You forgot to mention the crankshaft made from plasticene, the chocolate conrods, and the papier mache crankcases

I was excited about the Street Triple until Aprilia unveiled the Shiver. Now i'm more interested in that.

Ducati will make up any lost M695 revenues with the 1098 and Hypermotard. It's not like the mini Monster is top earner for them anyways, nor does this segment command high margins. They aren't going bust any time soon.

Aaaaargh! I don't know about Stateside but you could have a beard as long as ZZ Top waiting for parts from Aprilia. Maybe that's where they got their name from - April Fool!

Aprilia now is part of da bigga mafia - Piaggio/Vespa/Moto-Guzzi/Derbi/Gilera

Phoebe would not be happy about that.

Stopped in to a very successful, local bike dealer who sells Honda, Aprilia, and Kawasaki to see the new 08 Concours this afternoon. While I was oohhing and aahing all over the Concours, I noticed that all of the Aprilias were gone. I saw the owner and asked where they were. "Couldn't stand the absurd wait time for any Aprilia part, large or small, so I dropped the line," he said.

He just added Suzuki a month ago and is probably going to add Yamaha to his floor. This guy moves a LOT of bikes, but he just got tired of trying to come up with excuses for his unhappy Aprilia customers.

A friend has his order in on the Street Triple. He currently has an '06 Sprint, which he's trading in. I'm keen on taking the new bike for a spin to see how good it is. It's perfect for him as he's 5'3.

If the 600cc standard market attracts to it, then I'd agree it could take some Ducati sales. For me, a traditional S3 would still be more fun.

Talking really?

I doubt that Ducati are shaking in their shoes. With their recent success in Moto GP I'm sure sales are just fine. And Triumph still has nothing as beautiful as the 1098. Well, except for the Bonnie........
I'm not really a Ducati fan(though I do like the Hypermotard)but my apologies for replying anyway..

Gt1000

I test drove a Ducati GT1000 today along side a Bonneville. The salesman at the shop was pushing the GT on me, but after driving it I think the Bonneville is more for me. Don't get me wrong, the Ducati is a great bike, but ultimately I prefer the chiller ride of the Bonnie.
