So maybe this guy didn't steal my bike? and he was just knowingly in possession of it, hmm. I wondered why he didn't just take off when he got pulled over by high way patrol, who I assume at 3am were in a cruiser. I have the right to restitution, the only thing I could think of was my insurance deductible, $1000. Not holding my breath on that one. Anyone ever get restitution for a stolen vehicle?
In any case, I think 30 days in jail is too much for a non-violent crime. What do you riders think?
not only did my bike get stolen, I was the victim of a hate crime, this is the actual video with audio: I'm minding my own business in the white shirt, what should this guys jail sentence be?
?After reading both of your threads I come away with the impression you are. more concerned and interested in getting your deductable back.
You already posted you think 30 days in jail is to much for a non violent crime so what is left as a punishment for the guy stealing your bike? If he had $1000 to reimburse your deducta le would he have stolen your bike to begin with?
Just a question.
" I’m reaching out to everyone across the nation to help support his legal defense in getting his job back. Also, to all the people who’ve been the victim of bullying and are against bullying in the 21st century. Even the smallest donation will help. http://www.gofundme.com/7e28xn47
Also, please like or subscribe to this video so that more people can see this video."
That one made me laugh. It's like a courtroom version of Monopoly. This guy needs to stay in jail but what's the point of 3,318 years? Are his kids going to have to pick up the remainder when he dies?
30 days and the restitution seem fair if not a little lenient. Why do you think 30 days is too much, the thief and any would be thieves need to be shows that their are repercussions that damage them financially and go on their record for committing crimes.
Please explain, so what its not a violent crime, it is still crime and punishment is needed!!
Could you remind us of the circumstances here. Is this guy part of a theft ring that parts out motorcycles or was it a crime of opportunity by some squirrely kid.?
Doesn't seem to matter what side you come down on for sentencing of felons. 30 days, 30 months. They serve the time and society still treats them as crooks. They will never be an ordinary citizen again.
As a culture we are two faced when it comes to punishment. No matter what we believe fair punishment to be for a felon we don't want one to marry our child, move in next door, rent a room in our house, run for office, be a police person. When their sentence is served they only get out of jail, they never get out of being a felon.
Mike Vick quarter back great and dog fighter. What do you think he will be remembered for?
We are all responsable for our actions. Steal a bike and you are a thief for ever. Of course this is just my humble opinion.
Hap not only do I not want one to marry my daughter...don't want them in my neighborhood. if one feels okay with having one next door ...then put up a sign excon felons wanted..lmao.
So no second chances, ever? Even though he has done his time in prison and gone on to become a vocal activist opposing dog fighting? Once a criminal always a criminal, can't let them rejoin society?
I feel like the "second chance" is more willingly given to him because of his ability to play a game. I doubt someone who worked as a janitor and was convicted of the same crimes would so easily get a "second chance".
Also, after reading a lot of the testimony from that case, the cruelty he displayed was disgusting. There are good people who gave his victims a second chance. They aren't getting Nike sponsorships.
This may be true, and more people should be willing to hire ex-cons and help them back into society, rather than demand we cast them out forever, as is happening here. Ans that's not simply altruism; if we say they can't ever get a job again, we either pay for them to live or effectively force them to go back to crime.
One thing that has bothered me about the Vick situation is that people seem to be more opposed to him than to players that committed assaults and other crimes. I'm noticing that Steelers fans rallied behind Roethlisberger.
When I was raising young kids, I learned to deliver the punishment and then move on. I'm am good at harboring grudges, but being pissed at a kid for a week cause they did something dumb didn't seem all that productive. So, mead out the punishment then be done, and the kid is from that point forward judged by their next actions, not their past ones.
Not sure if that is relevant or not. I suspect it is though.
I agree with your position raising children through the kid stage. I would feel terrible if I failed to teach them they don't steal or any other crime that makes them into felons.
Kids learn from many sources, good and bad. And sometimes they just make mistakes, in spite of us.
I don't think you can take responsibility for what they do wrong anymore than you can take credit for what they do right. They have a free will and will use it as they see fit.
All you can do is feed them and love them and keep them close as long as you are able to, then get out of their way.
At $60k a year average to keep a person in jail it would seem that we could have the governments pay them to clean parks, paint bridges, any of the jobs not being done now at at a lower cost than we pay now and the folk would pay taxes back to the governments and contribute to SS.
Win win except for the laid off prison guards.
I am amazed that folks here can't accept the reality that rich folk inherently are treated different than poor folk in sentencing for felony convictions in most cases.
My interest is also wondering if the OP got his $1000 deductable out of the thief. Just asking.
Well Slow, that's an interesting statement. We were just getting to the truth of the matter."All pigs are equal, except some pigs are more equal."
