How many will be watching the tour, 54 first timers this year but some old favourites not in the field, great to see it starting in London and also that the weather seems to be on the change, initial stages also being led by a Btit. Looking forward to the whole thing, total endurance sport with unbelievable levels of fitness.

As a long-time bicyclist (even tho I'm no good at it), I'll be watching. I'm counting on my DVR and the fact that I'll generally be watching the stages the day after to zap past the endless Saab and Enzyte commercials that keep it on the air in the US on the VS network.
I've always, even before I rode motors myself, been entrigued by the daring and skill of the motorcyclists and their camera-operating pillions... sure, they're going slow, but jeez, they're making hairpin turns with a bunch of cyclists who are cornering at the traction limits on them skinny ti/yres. :-D

I am a cyclist and have been following the Tour since Lemond. BTW I've had the honor being beaten by Lemond in a mountain bike race (well, Lemond and about 500 other guys). I watched London start on Vs last night, good for the Brits. The money here seems to be on Vinokourov at this point but its early and its a long way and he doesn't always play well with others.

Where's the fun without the drug cloud hanging over...?

Yep, Vinokourov, & perhaps Kloden, must be a hot favourite.
I'd like to see Oscar Pereiro do well again. He's a good rider and a decent guy.
I thought the TV filming of the first two days in the UK was superb.

Tour de France? Isn't that the game they play with the old-fashioned two-wheeled contraptions you have to peddle along with your feet to make them go?

Yeah, I'll be watching too. Past "pushbike" roadracer here.
I've always enjoyed listening to the commentators Sherwin and Liggett. And I think Bob Roll is pretty funny at times.
Pretty exciting so far. But alas, I'll probably forevermore be thinking drugs, doping, and cheating in professional racing. Too bad.

"Too bad," yes and no. Yes it is too bad that this is happening regarding the performance enhancing drug use. The no is, I think professional bicycle racing is seriously trying to do something about it, guys are getting busted on on many of the the teams and I think we'll see a "pretty clean" Tour this year. But the temtation will always be there. You don't really see American sports trying to look at the problem at all. And the Olympics, when was the last clean one of those, any guesses? Yesterday the sprint finish was great they always are better than anything NASCAR does. The crashes, I'm always blown away by those. Was it 2 or 3 years ago they had a big crash just before the finish on one of the flat stages. There is nationalism, politics and commercialism involved so its gonna be messy sometimes but its great to watch. And VS this year has been covering most of the major events. Bike racing and the LPGA, I love watching the ladies too.
