Once again the Distinguished Gentleman's Ride is happening here in Detroit to benefit Prostrate cancer. It is an honor to part of such a cause. Donations of any amount are always appreciated and will help those in need. Any amount helps. I have donated and and hope that many of you will do the same. For those of you that want to also enjoy the ride with us, just register and lets all go out to have a fun day.

Here's a video of the San Francisco ride.

As you can see there are a few modern bikes in the group. People didn't mind as they were dressed up and, at least two of them I spoke with, had raised money for the cause. While you certainly don't want the event taken over by modern bikes a few here and there don't bother me. Some were definately needed to "keep the peace" and provide traffic control.

I envy those whose ride experiences were absent the mayhem, anarchy and confusion of the NY DGR.

Maybe your pictures and videos are misleading, but they seem completely different from the NYC experience.

Then again, I guess everything is.

Not sure how things have gone in the past, but it was very organized and everyone was well behaved too. A couple times some guys started zipping around in the group, but they were quickly squashed by the other riders. At one point we were all side-by-side going through the financial district 2 in each lane. It looked like a military parade. Again.. the traffic control guys did a fantastic job blocking lights and keeping the group together. Maybe people in SF are just more forgiving? I did see one lady jogger yell at some of the guys for blocking the intersection and saw another middle finger salute, but everyone else was cheering, waving and taking photos. I had a great time and will definately be back again.

We specifically made it a leisurely ride; no speeding, and even on a short highway stretch kept at or BELOW the speed limit. During pre-ride gather the organizer also made it clear hat the goal was to look good, not get there first, so there was almost no "zipping" by guys trying to move up.

I did the ride in D.C. Quite a mixture of bikes, some definitely older
classics, along with modern classics. Yes, there were a few newer
sport bikes, even a new Indian Scout. In the end, all that really
mattered for us (I think), was a good safe ride, and to raise $$$.

Considering our route, I didn't notice anyone upset at us. Got
plenty of thumbs up, and people waving. I think they enjoyed it
as much as the riders did.

Though I didn't quite enjoy D.C.'s crappy roads and combat
driving. Now I know why I always take the Metro.

Anyhoo, here's a slideshow from the D.C. ride:

Here are a few more photos from the Philly DGR ride, to add to Owenbrau's set above.

Personally, I had a blast. Nice chance to get out and about with some nice folks. A very positive atmosphere, and all for a good cause. Enough bikes & riders to make it feel like a real event, but few enough (50? 60?) that it didn't get unwieldy. Everyone rode calmly and seemed to enjoy it.

And true to Philadelphia's generally accepting atmosphere, all were welcome, even the folks who didn't (or couldn't) come on a classic or classic-themed bike. We did give them a little ribbing, but that's also part of a general Philadelphia welcome.

Hope to do it again next year.

There are a ton of events set up for choppers, hogs, even multi sport bikes. This is one of the few for classically styled bikes, and people get bent out of shape. Our event in Indy, we did have a few domestic V twins, some were custom cafe styled bikes, some were stock. We welcomed them (as they were dressed right too). There were street triples etc also. 90% were classics, trackers, and modern classics. Just dress the part and go, and have fun. I rode my 9T this year, which is arguably a "modern classic" as defined by the rules. I would have ridden my bonnie, but my son (age 40) was out on it for the last couple of weeks, as I think his girlfriend enjoys riding pillion.

Here is the start of 2015 DGR Vancouver BC Canada leaving from the QE Theater, downtown in perfect weather:

Had about 50 bikes registered, though I don't think all turned up for start.
Great day!
