Pics have started showing up online taken during the filming of the new Indiana Jones movie, featuring the aging intrepid archaeologist riding pillion on a Harley piloted by his son:

Second pic was too big and was edited out by Wombat -- here's the link:

This movie is set in the '50s. I didn't realise that Harleys back then had Twin Cam engines, disk brakes, belt drives, and modern tire treads. Nice vintage-style horn though.

I'm sorry -- how hard is it to use a period-correct motorcycle? It's not like there aren't tons of vintage Harleys around. This kind of lack of attention to detail in a production probably costing north of $100 million just irritates me. :hammer:

Is that because they used a Harley that was not period correct or because they didn't use a Triumph?

It does seem to show poor taste.

Maybe they assumed that since all of the other moto makers offered those options years and years ago that HD offered them tooand that they were something HD just caught up with, therefore assuming it would be close enough??? It's a stretch, but I'm just trying to help them out. ehh

that is awful. I wonder if Harrison Ford has to wear those male diapers for bikers things.

I think they realized that if they used a real '50s HD it'd cause filming delays while it was being fixed. Even being towed behind a film truck may break something. After all, the engine wasn't the only thing giving the HD "character".

At least they tacked on a kick starter. I doubt it works, though. They probably just have the actor thumb the starter when he kicks. It'll be interesting to see if it starts on the first try, or take them 2 minutes of kicking as per HD operating instructions.

My guess is there will be a scene where someone will be chasing them and they need to get the bike started but it won't until the last second.

The ONLY thing that could redeem this entire sorry situation is if Harrison Ford gets a chance to say "It's not my fault" as something like this happens...

I wonder if he's going to yell "Junior!" a lot.

This just sounds so annoying. And this is before I even think about the period inaccuracy issue... as a saxophone player I'm used to seeing the wrong models of saxophone show up in period films - we're all purists in our own area of expertise...

I'm not surprised by this lack of attention to detail at all. Hollywood puts out nothing but "quick buck" ***** anymore.
But at least with a modern harley they could head to a dealer for some hot dogs!
