I`ve had many happy years in realestate working for my current employer and made him very rich. For the last 6 months he`s had his 18 year old daughter working with us. She`s a nice kid but she couldn`t sell a liferaft to a drowning man, so my sales team had been carrying her, to our financial detriment. Last week, I spat the dummy, threw all my toys out of the pram, had a major tantrum and said "stick your f*****g job up your arse" and walked out.
I`ve never done anything like that before, it`s an incredibly liberating experience. Even better, is the fact that I can now 'go out to play' on my motorcycle every day, instead of going to work!
However, the money will run out sooner or later and I`ll need to do something. My ex boss has been ringing me every other day trying to get me back. It`s tempting but I`d have to eat some humble pie and no-one likes doing that. I also have the opportunity to set up my own business just around the corner, in direct competition with him.
What should I do?

Good one Rob, A man of principles
You can do as I do now.
Be a house husband and ride with my wife when I want.
Life is good !! Call me if you want to go for a midweek ride :-D

Are you legally allowed to set up in competition close by? Restraint clauses and all that. They often have time and distance limits. Dunno what the laws are in Oz, but such things are fairly common here.
Whatever you end up doing, here's wishing you make a great success of it!

"My ex boss has been ringing me every other day trying to get me back. "
Sounds as though HE'S the one who will end up eating humble pie Rob. Have an frank discussion with him on his lass's shortcomings and tell him under which conditions you'll deign to return to his employ. That is unless you really want to go out on your own.

Since when did Real Estate Agents have principles ? Go get your dummy back. This is the wrong time to set up a RE business, the tide is turning, the peak has passed, you don't want unnecessary overheads.
If your boss is keen to get you back then set some terms that you don't want to bear. Compromise. If that doesn't work just tell him his daughter has the hots for you and you left rather than devalue your relationship with him. That should send her packing ! :-D

Ride on !

Robbo,
youre a talented fellow.
Why not think outside the box a bit?
Maybe you would like to see something completely different :???:
A short bike riding holiday certainly sounds tempting for a little while
Tbirdnz, your advice is very novel!

You have lots of options as I see it, you can go back, (on your terms not his) he knows how valuable you are to his buisness, start up on your own but for you not to spite him, or do something completely different, something you WANT to do maybe! Your a talented guy rob, and as an ex Recce man you are very flexible. Do whatever you want but be prepared to maybe scale down your lifestyle for a while. only you will know whats available and whay you want, what ever it turns out to be best of luck with it, DD. :-D

To quote Triumph once again, "Go your own way". Actually, I would never presume to suggest what you should do, the quote just seemed to fit the occasion.
I don't mean to confuse the issue by asking , but why would you have to eat humble pie? He asked you back.
