The 07 Speed Triple . The July issue of KiwiRider and the editor's opening paragraph is:

"Now in my humble opinion motorbikes don't get much better than these. Triumph , God bless them, have been producing the Speed Triple for a number of years. But unless you are lucky enough to have ridden one, you ain't gonna know what they are like."

They go on to say, "There is no excuse for *****-ing around if you own one of these. If you're thinking of buying one and don't endorse motorcycle lunacy to a certain degree, then maybe you should buy something else in the showroom".

"The beast was made for stunt riding and general motorcycle malarkey plus of course you can ride it to the office as it comes with a bare minimum of street legal gear. The twin headlights up front give it a poised and venomous bug look."

"The Street Triple has come a long way since 1994 when it started out as a stripped down sports bike. Local legend, Shaun King, or Kingi as he is known for obvious reasons, has a beautifully set up Speed Triple that he performs on at local shows and no one stunts on a Trumpy like the King."

"I could sit here all night tapping away about how cool the 1050 triple is, but the bottom line is that if the type of riding you are into involves wheelies and stoppies and stuff that freaks your mum out then put one of these on your short list."

"It is up there with the Multistrada, the bigger cubed Monsters, the 1000cc Raptor and KTM's Super Duke."

"Sure it likes being ridden about sanely or slicing up some corners on a sunny arvo but what it really likes is being put on show and doing tricks. Thanks to Triumph NZ for the tester and any time you got another , call me up, I'll come runnin !"

These guys really test the bike to their extremes and they have previously had to purchase a new rear tyre before taking a tester back and at other times had the dealer query tyre feathering all the way to the edge and molten rubber sticking on the rear mudgard (fender).

So there you go.

Gee the site's dictionary is very sensitive, the asterisks in the above post was the word of the editor ....malarky...with ing on the end. As in fooling around a good dictionary word.

Hi Tbirdnz I used to subscribe to that mag as well as Autralian Road Rider.

Now I just get the latter.

Is Glen Ranguia still the driving force and Ed?

Hi Dave, not sure what happened to Ken Ranguia as Ross Mackay is the Ed but Stretch did the road test and stunting on the bike and also the wordage in this article. The above is only a few excerpts from the coverage, plenty of pics and other info in the test.

KiwiRider is not a bad mag, it's around 250 high quality pages and the KR offices are in a nearby small township to me about 15 mins away in Kumeu.

I get the OZ RR and 2-Wheels now and again when I see something in the mag that interests me like Triumph.

They stated they will be reporting on the 675 Street Triple when they get their hands on one, but I don't think they will have it until August.

Tbirdnz,
I got the mags confused I think. I was thinking of New Zealand Bike Rider and the guy that started it and has his office in Waihi is Glen Ranguia.

He sometimes refers to Peter Thoemings Australian Road Rider which is the one I subscribe to.

Thanks for the vid Rob, he's not too bad considering he's just got on the bike and that yard in the derelict factory is not as long as it looks.

It's only about 10 minutes from me in my local village Helensville. Not the most attractive spot in Helensville but obviously handy for KR who are about 20 minutes away from their offices. I think the site is going to be redeveloped so they will be looking for a new area to stunt bikes.

The Buell test was also reported in the July issue.
