I mentioned in an earlier post that I picked up my brand new (400 miles on the odometer) 2002 Trophy yesterday. I concluded the deal at the Triumph dealership in Chattanooga, TN, and prepared to ride my new bike back home (87miles). I warmed it up, rolled to the edge of the street, then pulled out into heavy traffic. I have ridden my Speedmaster for two years, and the pegs are out in front of my body. When I got the Trophy moving, I couldn't find the pegs. I was going down the street doing a strange air dance with my feet. I'm sure there were a number of snickers from the dealership.

It took only a few minutes to become accustomed to the bike, and it is a dream in every respect. My Speedmaster is yellow and black, and my main helmet and mesh jacket follow that color scheme. When I showed up for coffee this morning, the senior sage looked at my new, emerald-green Trophy, then at my jacket and helmet. He asked, Are you a two-wheel ad for John Deere or did somebody throw up in technicolor. Someone asked if I had a sign to go on the side of the bike saying, "I'd rather be plowing."

Before going to the office, I returned home, dug out my old black helmet, and donned a heavy denim shirt.

congrats on the new bike!

I had a similar thing happen. I had just rebuilt the motor on my bonnie, and in the process installed a set of Norman Hyde rearsets.

I couldn't get the starter to work, I decided I'd try push starting it, as I was on a hill anyway. So I'm running down the street pushing the bike, and I jump on and try to stick it in gear, but I can't find the dang shifter or footpeg! By the time I got it in gear I was moving so slow it didn't start, and I was at the bottom of the hill so I gave up and pushed it back home. Luckily, the neighbor was out front cutting the grass watching my every flailing move, searching for the footpegs.

Know how you feel brolane, I did exactly the same when I bought my new CB1300. Hadn't even sat on the bike before and similarly couldn't find the pegs riding from the dealers, a bit more laid back than I thought. They must have thought I wouldn't make the end of the street too !

I am glad I never had a test ride because I thought initially it put too much strain on my wrists with the forward leaning position and may not have bought it, but after adjusting the bars and sitting more correctly I found it a very comfortable bike.

Your work mates have a good sense of humour. "I'd rather be plowing !"

Ride on !

I dropped off my K11RS for some service work at North Dallas BMW, who also sell Triumphs. Just as I pulled around the corner from in back of the dealer, in my truck, I saw a Speed Triple on the ground and a guy holding his shoulder. He'd dropped it and banged himself up. A shop mechanic immediately came over and helped right it, a few more guys came over to help. No smugness on anyone's part, we all have our stories to tell (or not  )
