I installed a beta version of Windows 10 on one of computers to test it out. Since it's a beta it definitely has problems, but I think once it hits the shelves it will be okay.

I liked DOS and Windows 3.11, but Windows 95 sucked. Windows 98 fixed the 95 SNAFU, yet ME was horrible.

Windows XP was great for Microsoft operating systems, then they created Vista. Need I say anymore about Vista?

When Windows 7 came out we finally had an operating system from Microsoft that was like a dream come true. Unfortunately they followed with Windows 8.

I'm hoping Windows 10 will follow Microsoft's pattern and be an awesome PC operating system.

I've been a Mac guy for years but decided to go for a PC a few months back. I had nothing but problems and then upgrade to that tiled thing on the PC and....... I got my money back and bought a used Mac.

I am now a happy Mac camper again, but I know on the horizon that any laptop's days are numbered and we'll all have get smart phones eventually.

I run Windows 8.1 on my new 2015 Macbook :D Love both the device and both operating systems!

As a Systems Administrator, I believe in a harmony between Apple and Microsoft products and am definitely not a "hater" when it comes to the public battle of opinion between Apple, Microsoft, Google products.

I still use XP on my laptop. I almost sold it until I got ahold of tune ECU so that's all I use it for now. 7 was a dream come true for me cause it's fast and simple enough. Now I have an icon in my system tray about windows 10. I'm glad you checked it out and posted about it. Does it compare to another OS? I haven't even looked at 8 and am hoping not to. I don't have the time I once had for things like this and need "simple enough".

With win10 apparently you can no longer disable forced updates - that's the one reason I'll keep 7 on my gaming laptop.

We all know the scenario - you need to turn your computer/laptop off quickly because you're late for work/meeting/toilet visit - whatever, but Microsoft won't allow you to turn it off because of those stupid/unbelievably slow/unnecessary & bloody annoying updates!!!!

My wife has to wait nearly 10 minutes every monday for those stupid things (hopefully!!) to finish so she can start work.

I can't understand how people & especially business can take such a gaming OS seriously.

There's also things like DVD playback that are disabled in 10, and Microsoft have now got their way and you'll have to install everything from the MS store.

But beware, apparently there's an update in win7 that "upgrades" it to 10 on the sly and there's no going back unless you trash & re-install. I'd suggest keeping a pre-downloaded version of win7sp1 handy as I'm sure it will vanish soon.

I'll stick with 7 for games, and Linux for the Internet and anything "serious" thanks.

Enjoy!

Thanx for the tip about a copy of 7 sp1. I used to just wipe the hard drive and reinstall about once a year to clean it good anyway. But it's been awhile this time. I better check on that, but you know how it is getting it back 'just right'. Sometimes takes a few days

I HATE WINDOWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(3 guesses what I have been doing today???)

I'm going to get my Mac SE/30 out and start using it again.

3 Crashed PC's on my desk at this moment. My wife finally threw her laptop against the wall....I'm beginning to hate Technology. The ONLY unit working is my old XP computer. I've gone back to it for the moment. With AVG and Malware Bytes on it, it is safe for the moment.

Don't get me started on the "Driver-less car" thing, ESP. if Microsoft writes the code. Will give new meaning to the term "Blue Screen of Death.")

Win 8 is as bad as Win ME (Which stood for "The Mistake Edition").

I use Windows at work basically using the suite,...Word, Excel, MS project etc,...but at home I have a Macbook and love it.

Love it even more that I can get a form of Microsoft suite in Google Drive,..Sheets, Slides, spreadsheets etc.

I don't know much how they operate, I just use them like any other tool.

My wife's latest computer came with 8. It's horrible. She kind of got used to it, but I can't use it at all, and neither of us can even figure out how to install the home printer on it due to administrator access issues. She's apparently not the administrator of her own computer, and the administrator has to give her permission to install her own printer on it.

What happened to Windows 9...

Windows 10 has a pretty low bar to beat following 8. There's a reason that not even the federal gov't use Windows 8. All our machines are Windows 7. If I buy any laptops for work, they have to come with 7.

I think if people are still using 8, then they should consider moving to 8.1 - it is pretty stable now.

From a user experience point of view, the main difference between 8.1 and 10 are that in the latter, the charms menu (swipe in from right) has gone, and a Windows 7 style menu has come back on the left.

The other things that are not so visible but I think are important:-
Common platform - Windows Phone 10 and Desktop 10 are pretty much the same now and I think so is the IoT OS (Internet of Things). I believe the Xbox is the next on the list.
Universal Apps - developers can write one universal app and it will run on the above platforms.
Smaller disk/memory footprint
Support for new hardware (and there is some good stuff due out in the next wave)

I wish I could organize my "All Programs" folder that I have back. Create an Adobe folder and move the individual programs into it, for example. But I'm sure that will be added soon enough.

My laptop is dead slow after the upgrade, but I think my online backup software decided to re-upload everything and that's the problem. I need to figure it out.

But, yeah, overall it seems better. I mean, better than 8. I'm not sure I have any complaints with 7 and am happy as pie with it at work.

I am. Not technical support, but I'm currently a SQL programmer and DBA. Have been a web programmer and system administrator of both Windows and Linux servers. When I was a statistician for the Fish and Wildlife Service in the late 80s/early 90s I always got the newest computer. Through like the 386 math co-processor to the Pentium days, every time I could bump up to the next processor my runs times were cut in half. From jobs running overnight to running in 4 hours to running in an hour to stuff that would take a copule minutes today.

These days, I don't get joy from getting a new computer or having the latest and greatest. I just want a computer that works without drama.

So anyways, yeah, I think my opinion is valid, if that's your point :p

The profession is wide. And some of our jobs are narrow within it, and some are wider in scope. SysAdmin for a city has stresses I don't have to deal with thankfully. I don't even check my work email when on vacations :D It's like, in the world of doctors I'm a podiatrist. Podiatrists don't have to deal with emergencies ;)

My opinion of Windows 8 probably isn't professional at all. I don't appreciate Microsoft trying to force me into a cell phone interface when I'm perfectly content on my laptop. I don't appreciate Microsoft using their near monopoly to coerce me into buying one of their gawd damn Surface things by pushing their interface optimized for it. They used their software to sell their hardware, and I don't think that's cool.

The shame is, behind that shallow surface of the user interface, it seems to be a pretty good OS. And we may have a case of the consumer winning of the corporation, and I see Windows 10 as an "I'm sorry, I went too far". Which is cool, we all make mistakes :) I hope Windows 10 is as stable and long lived as XP and 7.

I bought a new laptop 2 months ago with 8.1 installed and was never really comfortable with it compared to my desktop with 7. Anyway seeing as I've not done anything with the laptop I allowed the 10 update to happen. Now.. love it. Went ahead and updated the desktop as well. 10 is just so much easier to get along with.

...left the PC world almost two years ago and went i-Pad. I do everything on it.
There are small limitations, but.... It. Has. Never. Crashed. I have three different
keyboards and watch any movie with headphones for wicked great sound. And,
on start up....oh, there is no start up. Hope Window 10 works well for those who
need it.

Just a computer guy, not a professional but I'm finding that Windows 10 has slowed my computer down from startup through programs starting and running. And the new edge browser has crashed many, many times. I just went back to Chrome. Sucks cause I really liked the idea of edge and wanted to like it, but Chrome is much smoother and comfortable.

Onsite technician for a worldwide, well known american IT & hardware company.

I just upgraded from 7 ultimate to 10 pro on my Alienware games laptop and must say I'm pleasantly shocked to report that it's working perfectly :D.

I had to set the "compatability" option "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings" in order to get most of my games working properly, but once I discovered that, all was peachy.

The win10 download took nearly 2 hours, even on my 100 mbit fibre optic connection, but once down it took just 32 minutes to do the complete upgrade and get me to the desktop. That must be a world record for microsoft, and is even on a par with a complete Linux installation.

Getting rid of that Ballmer d.ick.head was obviously a good move.

I took Microsoft up on their free upgrade to Windows 10 and installed it on a relatively new machine running Windows 8. After a week of really long boot-ups, frozen programs - including updated Firebox, Outlooks 2010 and even Word 2010 - I decided to uninstall it using the Microsoft link, which stated that my Window 8 would be reinstalled. I guess that was true, since Windows 8 was reinstalled on the machine. But after the return to Windows 8 I found that my keyboard did not work - though the mouse did - and that I could not access the internet - though the machine recognized and connected to my wifi. Now it's off to Geek Squad to see what they can do.

Next time I buy the software outright.
