I grew up there, learned to drive and ride there. I thought nuts was normal until I went other places....
We used to run the Pine Street Grand Prix which was a timed race from the Ferry Bulding downtown through SF taking Pine St. (cuz the lights were synch'ed), through Golden Gate Park to Beach Chalet at the Pacific ocean side.
As I remember Bill Boyd (god rest his soul) had the record at 12 1/2 minutes on a RD350 that was set up more like a TR2 race bike...keep in mind you would get stuck at a couple of lights that would cost you 4-5 minutes so he went 7 1/2 miles in 7 minutes through town.
