I'm looking to replace my rear AV46ST... lookign around, I can;t find any.. no one seems to have any stock on them... my assumption is they are phasing it out for the newer model Storm AV53/54ST, but holey spasmodic shpincters batman, they want $170 for a rear.... Seems to me I paid $123 for the AV45ST and $15 for the PIlot road before that and $17 for the Pilot road before that....

The front still has life left in it, so I was hoping to just find a rear, but now... ??

Can anyonoe advise on what other tires have a similar profile ( turnin characteristics ) as the Azaro? Cont?

I don't like the Pilot roads as the turn in and cornering takes way to much push, I liek the more rounded profile of the Azaro over the more oval shape of the Pilot.

I know that oile prices have pushed up tire prices, but it seems to be I am buying a trie at the wrong time of year more than anything else...

I really don't know if they'll have a profile you like, but I do like Conti Road Attacks. A set is just barely over $200 and for that you get free shipping from Ridedirect.com

Just a little advice from experience. Tires ordered off the Internet may or may not be what you're looking for. First, you don't know how old they are, and rubber and synthetics tend to age, even on the shelf. Another consideration is the charges for mounting the tire. Dealerships and bike shops tend to frown on installing tires they don't sell. The fees they charge will probably offset your savings on the Internet tires. Find a dealer with the tire you want, and see if you can do a little negotiating to get the tire and service for a good price.

Good points...

the Avon product has moved well and is very popular... old stock shouldn't be an issue.. in fact there seems to be no stock on the Azaros, also the Storm tire is brand new, so again, there is very little chance of old stock.

I've onlined tires before without incident, but there IS always the chance the deal won;t go as planned, but then my dealer warped my front rotors the last time they changed the tires... they did make good, but it took some foot stomping...

I have a buddy with the tire machine and I own my own tire balancer.

The dealer prices for the tires alone are just not competative, not to mention needing a 2 month lead time for service at my dealer, and they charge a flat fee for the rear and front. $40 front and $25 rear.

I called a local shop but he was not especially friendly or interested in talking to someone that does any of their own work... and there are enough people that do no work on their own that most shops seem to be able to turn away some business...

I have since found the Storms for $140 rear and about $100 front

Ok called the Dealer... 167 rear + 123 front + tax + 99 Install fee = $403.50 total

vs about $260 if I do it myself... .

hrmmmmm???

I get my tires from www.cyclegear.com. They have reasonable prices. If you have one near, you can take your wheels in, and they mount them for you. Last time I had the tires mounted and balanced through them it was $15 a piece. Plus the price of the tire comes with road hazard warranty. I am not sure when buying through the internet if they have this, but in store buy they do.
