Other Motorcycle: but then the Speed 3
I took last Thursday off to relax before my big (all day 8-hour) test on Friday. So I figured, what better way to relax then to take a nice ride around the desert? Well, that is what I did. I went down to Bartlett Lake and on the way back I figured I was gonna head towards Horseshoe Lake. The road is a chip seal road. If you don't know what that is, it is when they dump a bunch of oil and tar down and then spread gravel over it. Well the turn off had excess gravel on it, which I did not see, hit it, slid and dumped it. Crash and burn!! The most damage I incurred was on myself. So now I have a nice road tatoo along my forearm and tricep, a beautiful blue and voilet rose on my hip, thigh, knee and tricep and some scatches on the bike. All-in-all, the bike came out of the deal in pretty good shape. The worst of the damage was within the windshield, mirror and brake lever, which are all pretty inexpensive to replace. The front fender is pretty scratched. That is goint to be the worst of it. I was thinking about just lopping the front half off. We shall see. It is ridable thank goodness.

Well that is my story for the weekend, hope all your's were better than mine.

gm-

Sorry to hear!

Nudge, nudge, think about upgrading the protective clothing.

And stay tuned, I MAY have a front fender with just a wee dime sized scratch up for purchase.

So sorry to hear of your mis-adventure, they do that over here with the roads if you manage to stay on your paint gets chipped to S**t by cars throwing up tons of gravel, fix yourself and your bike soon, DD.

That's tough gm. Get well, get the bike fixed and get riding again.

Here the road people appear to be quite careful about loose gravel after years of bikes coming off seal n chip roads.

They have a tendency to over-warn, signs at 1km before and after new sealing and limit the speed to around 30km. Then brush off any loose surface chips before releasing the road to its normal speed limit.

Nothing worse than loose chips on a bend for a bike.

Ride on !

sorry to hear gm16sw. Glad that the bike is OK. You came off pretty well considering the possibilities.

That's one of the reasons that I wear leather.

Good luck on the mend.

Tar snakes and chip-and-seal, 2 of my least favorite riding experiences. Sorry to hear you were bit by the ADOT.

Been there, done that. No fun. I'd rather trash the bike and save my skin, though; ATGATT! No broken bones, though, and the bike is ridable. Could be worse. Heal fast.

It happens to us all, sooner or later. The "trick" is to "survive" it as best you can, which you seem to have done. Thank your "Lucky Stars" and whatever else comes to mind! Good thing you had that "bell' on there. Hope U were wearing your Joe Rocket. You need 2 spend more time in a cage, but THAT necessitates you BUYING a cage! Mend well. I'm sure the "folks" on this forum will help with the mending of the bike! :hammer:
