Hi there fellow Triumph lovers. Just bought a mint 99 Sprint ST with only 7,000 miles on the clock, and I love it to bits !!! All except the MPH speedo that is. The bike is New Zealand new i.e not a jap, or grey import, so I was very surprised to an MPH speedo when it arrived. I've never had to use MPH in the past, I'm struggling and the KPH scale is just to small to read on the move safely. Does anybody know what markets got what speedo, and does anybody know where I can maybe source a KPH speedo with low k's without paying hundreds for a brand new one ? Any suggestions appreciated.
Thanks Moxey

Hi Moxey,
I do not really know but I'd have thought Oz and Unzud would have both had kph speedos.

Hi Moxey welcome to the site. There's quite a few imports of used Triumphs into NZ these days. I have a friend who would be interested in an answer to MPH/KPH as he just bought a new 06 Tiger from one of the Auckland Triumph dealers and that is in MPH. Seems to be very expensive to change the unit, it actually does show KPH in small lettering under the MPH but he would like it reversed and is also wondering the best way and cheapest way to go about it.

Cheapest way? The KPH is already marked, just not big enough. Take a bottle of bright enamel (red, yellow, whatever) and paint bigger lines on at every 10 KPH. That, in reverse, was my backup plan if I took my Daytona back to.. to... :-| :brk:

Auldrider in Otematata has just bought a new ('06) Tiger and it is in mph as well. I'm surprised they don't have to be modifies before sale.

Yep, I'm still trying to get it to stick on max. :-D

There were a surplus of 06 Tigers in the UK zadok and I believe both OZ and NZ took a few of them. I think people were waiting for the changed 07 but my friend who bought one much preferred the old style 06 after he test ridden the 07. He traded in his 04.

Actually hidesert, my friend has stuck coloured strips (on the outside) of the dial to see if he would like them before he put them on the inside, he doesn't.

My scooter has kph big and mph small. It took me a couple of weeks to remember the marks, now it is just a novelty. the odometer is KM's.

You guys should use the more Manly MPH scale instead of the effeminate "kph" like a bunch of french Nancy's anyway.

Serves you right.

You can get a sticker to go on the face, with KPH, I`ve seen them on e-bay and places like that. Try Thunderbike in Nelson, they might be able to get you one.
