I think everyone has had problems trying to talk to someone at a company and been put thru the hoops with recorded voices giving 1 to 5 selections after which you are put thru more endless selections and end up with not speaking to anyone atall ?

Here's a solution offered by NZ Telecom's help desk as reported in today's NZ Herald:

"Mark Dumble of Taupo has worked out how to speak to a real person when phoning a call centre ... "I have just got off the phone after investing an hour of my working day with Telecom's helpdesk attempting to set up a cellular secretary on my mobile phone. They now use a Virtual Person to protect their very busy operators from Very Real People who wish to speak to another Very Real Person. When I stumbled across a Very Real Person at Telecom by mistake, the advice - when I complained about trying to circumvent the Virtual Person - was to, "Swear at her twice and you'll be put straight through". Now, how many times do I need to swear to reach the CEO?"

Sorry, the CEO has been replaced by Microsoft "CEO Works". It only communicates in binary code, and to decipher it you have to buy Microsoft "CEO Speak", which will require a bigger hard drive, more RAM, and sending at least three liters of unicorn milk to a PO Box in Xanadu. And it still won't work.

Don't you find that some of the "real people" are behaving like robots?

No, but I find that quite a lot of them are from India. I always have a bit of fun with them.
"Wherabouts are you located?" I ask. "Uhhh Melbourne, they reply." "How are you managing with all that snow, have they unblocked the highway yet?" I ask, knowing full well that the roads are melting in Melbourne due to the 40 deg C heatwave.
"Uhhh yes, snow is very bad indeed, very cold," is the usual reply.

What is worse, is when you have a legitimate reason to speak to someone within the organisation about their IT environment, but there is no listing anywhere in any directory that will get you anywhere but their Call centre.

Or, how's this.

The company I work for had sold software licenses and sunsequent support contracts to a QLD government department. We are the ONLY people who can provide this support, yet when it came time to renew the support, the department insisted that they go out to tender to get the best price available. We got calls from three different software resellers asking us to sell them support, for licenses they didn't own.

So, yes there are people becoming more like robots.......
