Pardon my rant, but three alleged riders spoiled by beautiful Sunday ride. I was coming out of Georgia on U.S. 78 when I ran into some really slow traffic. In a few miles, most of the traffic turned into a Walmart, and there was only one car in front of me. The hold-up was a pack of three bikes, either HDs or HD wannabes. The lead bike had a passenger, and, naturally, was leading from the right side of the lane (not right as in correct, but right as opposed to left).
This section of highway has some really nice curves, and when the three riders would see the signs, the brake lights came on. I finally got around the car, and was hoping these folks would move along. They were topping out around 50, and would slow to 40 or less when in a curve.
Being a good, careful, courteous and kind Triumph rider, I smiled as we approached a section of the highway with a passing lane. The slow bikes stayed in it, but I had a chance to blow them away on the right.
Good riders have enough problems with cars and trucks. Is there any way to keep two-wheeled idjits off the road?

People doing that sort of thing are being tremendously inconsiderate, and should be ticketed for impeding the flow of traffic. That's all I'm going to say, since I notice I may need to replace some of the boards in my soap box soon. They're wearing a little thin.

I don't mind folk pottering along, but do expect them to have the courtesy to ride / drive in the correct road position and to periodically allow people to pass.
Bear in mind tho' - these guys were on HD's - maybe they were goin flat out....

I agree that the right side leader was completely assinine- and around what was probably blind curves, too. Yikes! There go everyone's insurance rates...
But what was the speed limit through there? I know when I ride out-of-state (or anywhere I don't know what the cops are like) I often keep around the speed limit because I assume that California plate is a dollar sign to them if they recognize it.

Probably riding big twins. Ya can't go very fast on 'em and they're really only good for droning along in a straight line.

This is an interesting post to see, because I was about to start a similar rant.
Today was the first really nice weekend in our area. I took my daughter on her first long ride on the back of the Green Wonderbike.
Battlefield HD in Gettysburg, PA had their annual Blessing of the Bikes followed by a benefit ride. There were a few thousand bikes there and I'd say a few hundred stayed and did the benefit ride.
Now this humble Triumph is no rocket scientist, but how hard is it to figure out where you belong in a staggered formation group ride.
Did you guys know that if you are on the right side of the lane riding in a group that its an invitation for a nit-wit to pass you?
Then 2 of them went off the road at different times and brought the ride to a halt. After the 2nd accident, they group had been seperated into a bunch of different parts and pretty much ended up in chaos with a bunch of riders not knowing where the ride ended.
Maybe people are rusty from not riding in a few months (the Harley guys around here don't ride in bad weather) or have bought bikes that they don't have the experience to be able to handle, but it makes me want to stay away from these benefit rides.
I won't stay away, because they are a great way to help out, but maybe I'll stay away from the ones at Harley Dealers.
Anyway, hello to the other 3 Triumphs in a sea of a few thousand bikes.

I'm sorry I omitted the speed limit. On U.S. 278 the speed limit is 55 mph on the open road, and 99% of the area I traveled was open road.

It's bad enough when the cagers get in your way, but for a member of the brotherhood (not to exclude the sisters among us) to get in the way, it's inexcusable.
I believe that there should be much more strict licencing requirements for all operators of motor vehicles.

I tend to ride in pretty much the centre of the lane (except when I use the road space in the bendies) but, if I see someone needing to pass me, I have no problem with moving over a little to make it easier for them to get by. If I catch up on another bike, I expect that rider to do the same - if nothing else, it's simply common sense.
On the rare occations I've encountered real ignorance from other riders, I have sometimes been known to shout over to them as I draw level that their "L" plate has come loose and fallen off. If they don't have the wit to take the hint, then they are at least put into a state of confusion sufficient to allow me safely past.

Ooops, I was guilty of this on the weekend. I was cruisin along on my own (or so I thought) when I had my periodical look in the mirrors. I have to make a special effort to see behind as my mirrors are not for rear viewing, only aesthetics. And there was a queue up behind, I had to hasten up or get out of the way.
I was in Triumph heaven, perfect day and no thoughts in the grey matter.
So... got the finger out and moved it up a couple of notches. Sorry to the guy on the Moto Guzzi Californian up my tail pipe...
By the way I have you're registration holder in my pocket. It fell off as you passed me ! :-D
