What a great movie, awesome adventure, beautiful scenery and people! A tribute to long distance riders.

Yeah I loved it too. We bought the DVD and after watching it my wife said "I want to learn to ride a motorbike," and 6 weeks later she was riding her first Ducati. It`s been discussed on here a few times and some people were very critical of the high level of support that they recieved during their trip. I still think it was a mammoth achievement and Ewan and Charlie`s personalities made the off-bike stuff interesting.

I believe they're now filming a north to south excursion. Anyone know the title?

Absolutely great stuff.

After you've enjoyed it, you must jump in and read the works of Ted Simon.

Other Motorcycle: I wish!
A mate of mine gave me a copy of the book, which I could not put down.
After enjoying the book so much, I bought the DVD set and loved it too.

Sure they may have had support vehicles with them most of the time , but they still rode their bikes all that way.

More power to them and more than I would attempt.

Yeah, I've heard it will be "The Long Way Down" but that's just what I've heard. It was in a news article I read (I forget where).

The first one was inspiring. It made me grow a newfound contempt for KTM...

I too loved it. I wanted to get a Beemershcooter and take off around Australia at least!

Sure they had support vehicles, but if you look at the finer detail, the support vehicles were sometimed 100s of miles away on a different route! Not to mention that one of the support vehicles was completely trashed at one point.

I especially liked the day the new cameraman Claudio turned up to the interview on a scooter with L plates!

Wonder how Tigers would have gone on the same trip?

Might have to have a word with Mr Bloor!

I agree with you Rob. They started off like wooses, only do a few hundred miles a day. But did toughen up and look after themselves across central asia. The car may have only been a few hundred K away but they did travel on their own with each country. The support cars met them at borders. I got the book one Xmas, read it in 3 days and ordered the DVD - awsome!

I liked Race To Dakar as well - got that last year. Can't wait for their next one.

Wombat,

They didn't quite ride the whole way, they needed trucks to get them across the Zilov gap. Not surprising since the only guys who ever did manage to ride the gap did it on Suzuki dr350's. They made a really noble effort in getting those big beemers as far as they did though, hats off to them for that. I was also impressed by Charlie's efforts in the race to Dakar last year, finishing a stage with two broken wrists.

Forgive me for mentioning this again, but to give credit where it's due, the real inspiration for the Long Way Round was the boys who did it first in Mondo Enduro They failed to cross the Zilov gap that time and had to put their bikes on the trans Siberian railway.

On a later trip they did manage across the gap by bike on the Terra Circa trip, probably for the first and last time because the Russians have since built a road there.

If you are interested in that type of adventure riding, but don't want to commit to buying the dvd's, you can borrow mine. pm me your address and I'll pop em in the mail.

I remember seeing the Mondo Enduro on television, if I remember right they didn't have the benefit of real expert advice, or a big budget. Some of them dropped out as well didn't they?.
As for The Long Way Round, I do have the book and DVD, but watched it when it was serialised on television.
A great adventure that I would love to do, but also great publicity for biking.
