So i flew out to Little Rock this weekend to pic up a Thruxton and ride it back to Houston. Figured I'd take a few inexpensive tools in my carry-on, ones I wouldn't miss much if they got confiscated by security. Among other things like my GPS, wiring for the gps, cable ties, bungie cords, flashlight, allen wrenches, etc was this little guy.... complete with 2" SERRATED KNIFE.
I thought for sure I'd at least get searched with all that stuff and would lose the multi-tool for sure. Nope. Other than my bag sitting in the xray machine for a few extra seconds, it passed right thru. I almost wanted to take it out myself and hand it to them. "> Almost.

Obviously not Vegas.

I lost my favorite Swiss Army knife on the way to Hawaii. Does destination make a difference?

I doubt it. I think they just missed it among all the other stuff I had.
I'm just shocked they didn't search my bag with all that stuff in there.

That's the scary thing. Even with all the added inconvenience and hassle, it's still just window dressing. If we really want security, we have to run things like the Iraelis run their airline. Think the rest of the world will put up with that?

I want my allen wrenches back.

Listen Dudes, I used to work for AA Passenger services in the early 90s.... I was trained up to operate a fluffier version of the ElAl (Mossad) profiling system. IT WORKS! I personally flushed out a drug smuggler using nothing more than skilled questioning and reading body language. Trouble is that to do it properly means that you must have about a three hour check in, prior to ETD, and sometimes passengers ARE going to be profiled, and denied boarding.

I used to get told at least twice a shift that "I will have your job a=*hole, and "I will write to Bob Crandall"

I used to smile, and give them my card, and say "Be sure to spell my name right..... have a nice day"

Guranteed to give some mouthy premium pax apoplexy.

Seriously - you were lucky that they were slack. If not, then you would have lost it!

Cheers

Ya, i didn't care. I got it for free with some other bicycle stuff and have never used it before now since i have better ones. I fully expected them to take it but figured i'd give it a shot.

I don't really consider myself lucky though. More like I consider the other passengers lucky that I didn't have a hidden agenda.
