South Park is basically the old Oliver Miller Homestead...which was the house Neville the tax collector got chased out/fired on and started the Whiskey Rebellion...first time Federal troops were sent in domestically to squash the citizenry.
during the American Revolution, folks on this side of the mountains had no "government" protection, and Indians were encouraged to make mischief, so these folks got pretty independant and self sufficient...after the War, the government needed money to function and pay debts and put a tax on whiskey...which was money (from grain) here...the homesteaders didn't enjoy any of the eastern benefits, and were fresh off "No taxation without representation" propaganda, so they refused to pay taxes. George W. sent in 12K troops from Carlisle to make the point...against what? 2-500 farmers who werent suckers on the vine. In Geo.'s defense, I think Neville did get tarred and feathered and had his barn burnt down...and there were a couple other causualties...these folks, as I say, were pretty independant.
Colonials from Va started coming over the mountains in 1754-ish...there had been trappers, French/English interest in Pittsburgh, and surveyors previous, but the Millers were in pretty early....contemporary with the Cross Creek settlement of Dodson "Notes on the settlements" documentation.
the US was pretty much founded on smoke and booze.
we killed all the short legged a while back...cooked them on a stick...fairly tasty too...
you guys still eat lizards over there?

I am guessing that the original post was a reference to the SouthPark cartoon that missed you entirely...
FWIW the Southpark in point is in Colorado...and lighten up a little.

It's OK. I liked the history lesson being an old Pennsy boy myself and enjoying both smoke and whiskey. (and women and motorcycles) These originals really knew what was up and what to do about things for themselves. The Southpark on TV is disgraceful, foul, nasty, and only funny to 13 year old perverts and those who never passed that point in their intellectual growth. Besides, my wife won't let me watch it!

ROFL!
I guess that's me then. :-D
But in actuallity, it's a pretty well written show that is very tongue in cheek and the creators have no problem letting their politcal and ethical views come through. They'll take a very controversial subject that gets everyone heated up, then exaggerate the situation just to show how silly the whole thing is. Plus it always amazes me how quickly they can put a show together. Something big will go down on Friday and by Wednesday they are making fun of it on their show. Sure, they walk the line... but it's cable tv. What's REALLY amazing (and just as funny) is what Family Guy gets away with on FOX on sunday nights!

didn't miss the reference, but I don't follow the program...I have glanced at it enough in passing to know the context.
