I'm new to motorcycle riding and just completed my Basis MSF course today. I feel obligated to tell anyone who is new to motorcycling or has not ridden in awhile what a great and worthwhile course this is. I went into it with the attitude that it was nothing but an obstacle on the way to getting my first motorcycle. I left the course today with the knowledge that I would never dream of pulling onto a public street without first taking this course. Well worth the money, probably saved myself and my bike from some painful lessons.

:upthumb: Agreed!

The experienced rider course will feel the same way after you get a few miles under your belt. Well worth taking!

Good luck!

Yes it is a great place to start. I had ridden dirtbikes for a long time. I just took the course so I can get my license without having a bike. When I took the class, I definattley learned alot more than I thought. I can say if I hadn't taken the class, I would have been killed awhile back as they taught some things I wouldn't have used in some situations.

TCL,

Couldn't agree more. Took the MSF about a year ago, then got my bike about 6 months ago. I'm going to take it again in about 3 months because a buddy of mine is taking it so he can get a Scrambler...and I'm sure I already have some bad habits to unlearn.

My father is taking it in PA in March. It's the only way Ma would let him get a bike! I have to agree with her, though. Even in the relatively short time I have spent riding, the lessons learned have been invaluable.

TCL,
I took the course after being out of motorcycling for 30-35 years. I was amazed at the number of bad habits I had back then. Some I got from the fellow serviceman who taught me how to ride and some I picked up on my own. But I was clueless about them until the course instructors began pointing them out.

The MSF class should be required for anyone wanting a motorcycle license.

TCL congratulations! I got my license after taking the MSF course too.

Start slow when you venture onto roads for the first time, and work your way up to more challenging riding as your skills and confidence increase.
Ride safe and have fun!

It's a great course....everyone should take it. It's best to be able to practice emergency stops in an controlled environment....rather then have to try one out first hand on the street. An example would be that the course gave me the opportunity to fix my habit of gunning the engine when I went to grab my front brake on emergency stops.

And don't forget the insurance discount.
Here in MA I get 10% off both bikes.

Some dealers will also offer a discount on gear or parts.
