holy cow that is amazing.

I sometimes fly with a friend who has a 4 seater and if he tried that stuff I'd get out and walk!

Is Bob Hoover still alive?. I`ve seen his display at the Abbotsford Airshow alot of years back, and i thought he was killed in a crash off the coast of California afew years ago.

Robert Hoover used to demo to pilots in the ETO the P-38 Lightning's handling on one engine.

If I'm not mistaking, he was a chase plane for Chuck Yeager's sound barrier flight.

I think he's still alive. If you see him at an airshow (like Oshkosh), he's very approachable- one good dude.

A flying video that leaves me with goose bumps is:

One Six Right

Click on the 'Video' link and then select the video 'Flight'

Turn up the sound and enjoy.

Yes, Bob's still alive and well. The crash mention was years ago and happened when fuelers put JetA instead of AVgas into his plane. He like the true gentleman he is has always taken full responsibility for this for not checking the fuel himself after the plane was serviced.

He doesn't fly shows any more but can be seen at the bigger ones. The FAA puled his medical a few years back.

Bob Hoover was a contemporary of Chuck Yeager at Wright Field, Ohio. 1945/46. In his biography Yeager descibes Hoovers sense of humour in booking flying lessons with a woman instructor. When she sent him solo, he launched in to a routine of aerobatics, thus giving her a bit of a scare. When she saw the crowd of onlookers in Air Force uniforms she realised she had been 'had'. Chuck Yeagers biography is a good read. ISBN 0-09-947040-3.

Bob Hoovers biog. is titled 'Forever Flying'
