So, a friend of me asked this question and I couldn't answer it. Although it is false to say that GSX-Rs are squid bikes, it is true that a lot of squids opt for the Gixxers. That's a pity because Gixxers are very competent bikes.

I am totally clueless? Do you know why?

Because they are such good bikes that's why.

What is difficult to comprehend about this?
I don't like the 1000 Fire blades they are character less.
The gixxer you become a part of the machine, bloody brilliant piece of kit. Bullet proof mills too just unburstable!

And you are right not only squids have 'em.

I had one and I might ride like one sometimes but don't have the skinny physique or stupidity (I hope) that kids exhibit frequently.

I agree that Gixxers are good bikes. In fact, GSX-R750 would be my choice if not for Daytona 675. R1000 is still my fav for multi liter bike (count RC51 for twin).

I am just wondering why reckless riders choose the Gixxers over anything else.

Couple of incidents I saw involving squids on a Gixxer. The worst I've seen involving a Gixxer thou speeding against a sports car in a public freeway at 150mph +. The rider was wearing only a tee and jeans with no socks. What's worse, the bike was tailing the car in a distance less than 20 feet.

The Suzuki GSXR's are great machines, I am considering a GSXR-750 for myself, awesome track bike. And a superior street bike with the reputation to back it up.

GSXR's, R1's, CBR's, and Ninjas are extremely popular, fast, agile, low maintenance, and reliable so they become easy to choose. I on the other hand do a lot of research on a bike before buying it, I also get to ride it.

Nickwiz my friend, here across the pond a SQUID is a young inexperienced rider on a very fast sport bike not wearing the appropriate riding safety gear. LOL And hopefully someday they do grow up and become Hooligans. Some of them look as if they have tentacles and smell fishy. Hmmm

I think it depends a lot on where you live. A lot of the squids where I went to college road Yamaha, and in the town where I grew up the only sportbikes on the road where Kawasakis.

It's all about street cred with that crowd. GSXR's kick butt in AMA super sport and AMA superbike, Matt Mladdin has won the title a bunch of times on a GSXR, Suzuki's won the manufacturers trophy a bunch of times., They have the rep of being THE sportbike to get so they sell like hot cakes, plus they live up to the rep in performance and handling.

If I was a skinny 20 year old I'd have one myself, instead I got a Bandit which uses the first gen GSXR motor with ergo's more attuned to a creaky overweight middleaged guy.
