Hurrah, 108 indicated up an empty bit of the M23 (allegedly, officer). Now I've got that out of my system. Funny thing was, I'd just bought some leathers from a very nice bloke in East Grinstead who was selling them cheap because "no-one buys them anymore", put them on, sat on the bike and I swear the Speedy found another 10hp.. really bizarre, I thought I was doing about 85..

Now of course I don't condone any speeding and don't try this at home.... (unless you have a VERY long garden). :-D

Christ! 108 on a speedmaster. I rode one once. Over 90 my body became a wind break. My feet were getting blown off the ridiculous pegs and overall I was very glad to give it back. 108 you say? how on earth did you stay on the thing!

Must have the "detuned for more torque" engine. 790 stock gets 115.

I grew up in East Grinstead - nice place. I imagine that the place was Felbridge motorcycles, on the main A22?

I have managed to get 110mph indicated from the T100 so far up a bit of deserted M3....

I am sure that if I crouched over the tank, and lost 20 pounds it would do 120!

Cheers

Mark

I'm not sure. It was definitely on the main A22, small corner shop just after a set of lights. If anyone wants cheap leathers I said I'd advertise him - he's selling them off because he has no buyers, everyone wants textiles apparently.

Now on the ton-up thing, I just thought it was something I needed to be able to say I'd done. Ok I know, a bit childish, but bear with me. I'm not a sports bike rider, never will be, but still like the challenge of pushing the envelope. What was a bit wierd was I'd tried before and got so freaked out by the vibration and general discomfort that I'd backed off, so at 94 indicated I was quite happy. Now I bought a set of leathers from yer man in East Grinstead, they tucked into the boots instead of my Draggin Jeans outside them. I'm wondering (this is a stock Speedy with no fairing/screen whatsoever), would the aerodynamics of baggy textile trousers vs tight leathers make that make that much difference over top speed?

Wearing my normal Dragging Jeans (textile, baggy), top speed of the bike is about 94/95 indicated, beyond which serious vibration seems to make it unsafe to continue. Tight "RST" leathers, suddenly 100mph is easily achievable, the bike actually goes up to 108 on the speedo before running out of juice. I'm wondering, could clothing/aerodynamics actually make that much difference? I suppose it could. I was astonished, which is why I had to see if it could go over a 100 two more times.. ummm... allegedly officer.

Can't speak highly enough of yer man in East Grinstead - a true enthusiast, and he'll do you a deal on leathers if you want them...

richb-

The aerodynamics of outerwear as it affects output, performance, torque, MPH, horsepower, physics, the universe... is a subject that can only be laid to the feet of one swami, one master, one all knowing compendium of Triumph Speedie knowledge...

All together now.... _ _ _ _ _!

I do like to TON UP on one wheel often, 3rd gear on my Speed Triple, standing up of course.

But it is a lot more rewarding to break the TON on my old BMW. Simple, pure, the true essence of a motorcycle.

Ton Up!

My T 100 will hit the Ton with my parasail-like butt on it but it's a struggle. Makes it more fun because the speedo is just crawling for those last few MPH's

Modern bikes that hit the Ton in second gear are just not the same.

115 on the TBA regularly i just added a fly screen, looks great, but I'll see if it changes the handling characteristics. Next project will be removing the air box and re-jetting and a larger sprocket. We will see what she does. Seriously considering the 900 upgrade.

Ride on Dudes and Dudettes.

I will have a S3 oh yes I will. :horns:
