There are advantages to not having cable TV. I cancelled the service last week and was concerned about not seeing the History Channel and The Weather Channel.

Without the weather channel I know if its raining or not, cloudy, kinda cold or warm. That's about it.

This morning I decided to ride to work and went to the garage, opened the door after putting on my gear and cranked up. While the bike was running, I walked outside to see just how cold it was. Seemed a nice crisp morning, probably about high thirtys or low fortys. OK, I'm wearing a nylon windbreaker, with a fleece windproof jacket over that and my summer mesh jacket, gloves and full face helmet. Should be a nice little commute.

It wasn't daylilght yet and no one is on the road at 5am most of the time. I love early mornings. The cold air leaked through my helmet and felt good. Closer to work, my fingers were a tad cold and my knees hurt a little, but nothing terribly uncomfortable. Hell, at my age they hurt most of the time anyway.

Arriving at work, the night shift looked at me like I was nuts! They were bundled up and ready to go home. I went to my office, booted the puter, made coffee and then checked the weather on the NOAA site. Current temperature in Pensacola, Fl was 28 degrees.

Now, if I had watched the weather channel the night before and known how cold it was going to be I probably would have convinced myself not to ride. It was a pleasant ride.

High temp today 49 degrees. Its finally winter in Northwest Florida.

Dennis

Wonder if you factor in the ride back with the wind chill I bet it was near the single digits.. Even with the weather channel it is hard to know what the weather will do a lot of times.

Very true, but I am beginning to realize that quite often I let the POSSIBILITY of them being correct influence me. Its nice to escape that.

G'day,

I've never had cable :-) and have never missed it. Weather.com works just fine for me with hour by hour forecasts.

But those brisk mornings sure are invigorating.

28 & 49? Consider yourself lucky. It'll barely be above freezing here for the foreseeable future.

I check weather.com and the NOAA National Weather Service sites a few times a day. As if the weather will suddenly change and it'll be 70-something tomorrow. :hammer:

Ride safe.

Our high here today and tomorrow is in the 20's and our lows are single digits (F). I know that there are some places that will be colder, but that doesn't make me feel any warmer.

I enjoy riding in what we call winter here in Florida. While others love the summer heat, it can be quite uncomfortable here on the coast with the high humidity. This morning the commute temp was 38 degrees and probably in the high 60s going home this afternoon.

I lived in Newport, Rhode Island as a little bitty kid. No bridge, rode the ferry. I remember biting cold, snow that stayed on the ground for what seemed like years to me and huge icicles hanging from the roof that I thought were going to fall and stab me! :-D Then there was the coal fired furnace in the basement, radiators upstairs and an old bulldog that didn't do anything but sleep and fart. Ahh, memories of youth. :-D
