The Fun police are out in force

"Smacks of big Brother"

I know it is not out there yet, but I am not sure why you could not just block the antenna some how. It would seem that they could not make the device kill your engine if you were not receiving a signal, because you would be screwed in tunnels and for satellite connectivity, bad weather (I know it is alway sunny in England)

Fight the power

The government is just trying hard to do its self appointed job of protecting you from yourself.

Really now, who knows better what is good for you-you or someone who has a doctorate in public safety?

BTW, next on the list of "governmental things to do" are:
Banning Firearms
Banning Fatty Foods
Banning Meat
Banning Coffee
Banning the Reading Unapproved or Subversive Material (like the
Bible or Fahrenheit 451 or 1984, etc).
Others to follow as soon as the aforementioned bureaucrats can figure it out.

Here is another good reason to join the AMA (or the UK equivalent).

I wouldn't buy any vehicle that had something like that on it. On motorcycles, it would kill the industry.

We have a group here called Motorcycle Action Group. They have successfully fought to prevent the European Monster State forcing Leg protector bars onto all bikes. The suggestion of external throttle control is a thorny one. If the speed is suddenly cut whilst you are racked over on a bend, the only way you can remain stable is to reduce the angle of lean - straight into oncoming traffic! I dont see it working for another few years at least. Most likely if the system detects you speeding by a given percentage, when you next shut down the engine, the immobiliser will lock you out until reset at a Police resetting station - after they have relieved you of a hefty fine.

Yes - we are all so dangerous.....

A little passive resistance like rolling roadblocks of groups of motorists and motorcyclists all going slightly below the speed limit should nip this in the bud.

That's a tactic that labor uses here against companies during contract talks. It's called "work to rule" where every single rule and regulation is scrupulously followed for a few days. It pretty much paralyzes production and gets the point across quite well in a nice legal manner

I'm sure this was in the MCN a couple of months ago amd they got the government to pull funding for the trials after proving that it would be seriously dangerous to have a bike lose power just as you were overtaking a truck or going round a corner (for example). IIRC, government have agreed not to impose any kind of device that would remove the riders' control of the throttle - which probably means that all new bikes will be restricted to 80mph instead!

I think before they do this they should put a breathalyzer to test for drunks getting behind the wheel of 6,000 lb cages. If they fail, the car doesn't start. That'd save a bunch more lifes than keeping me from even staying up with traffic on the 405 in SoCal.

Rhetorical questions here:

Why aren't they more even handed in their legislation?

Why not make it just as expensive and awkward to learn to drive a car?

Why aren't these wonderous devices to be fitted to cars too?

An errant motorcyclist is mainly a danger to themselves.

An errant car driver has a much more lethal weapon at their disposal!

When you take away the individuals right to act in a common sense manner and replace it with mandated govermental controls freedom is lost. No matter what the intent may be our freedom shrinks. This is becoming more common.
